Yup, that would be my dream truck.

 

Reinforcing the front bend in the skid plate is the main weak point, since it's the first part of the skid to hit anything and starts to flatten out after a while. There is room to add additional bracing around the differential and in front of the radiator, but at some point you're just adding a lot more weight without a huge benefit. Skid plates are somewhat disposable armor, they should be allowed to deform to absorb the energy of big impacts and then be replaced after a while.

We also trimmed the front lip and opened the slotted holes to make it work with @Digiratus 's Elite bumper.

 

Went with replacement headlights. Nothing fancy for me. Just don’t wanna die at nighttime.

 

Yes that is also the plan. Just have to swap the core support and hood which is fine with me since I'm running fiberglass fender anyways

 

Put a cap on the wheel support tube and installed longer bolts to hold the wheel in place on the swingout. Also swapped the regular bolts on the license plate for stainless torx bits.





Start taking the rear bumper back off for the last time tomorrow for paint.

 

I can only speak about my own experiences.

This is my 2nd set of the BB skids. The 1st set went 9 wheeling seasons. They have saved my bacon so many times. But as Dan mentioned, over time the front bend flattened out which effected the mounting locations. Rather than futzing with the old set any longer I just replaced them.

ARB deluxe bull bar bumper matched up to a warn vr8000 winch(FYI this winch and bumper with the 04 taco requires a bracket to be fabbed for control box...the one they send is for a different series of winches)
16” Pacer black matte rims, classic bullethole pattern, alloy.
Goodyear duratracs (265 75 r16) roughly a 32” I believe. No rubbing or modding at all with my suspension lift, and they look angry.
Capa headlights from rock auto, very bright but not the blinding hids you see these days.

I am doing a ham radio install soon, bought a vortex standard 50w vhf 2m radio today for 135 used. No antenna though. I am planning on mounting antenna on the back bumper when I find the bumper I like .
