Geez the way some of you people are talking, it’s like the dealer dropped the freaking thing down the Grand Canyon and are trying to give it back to him, unrepaired.

If you get into a fender bender you don’t get a brand new vehicle. As long as the damage is repaired they did their part. I mean for his troubles they should go above and beyond to take care of their customer. However that doesn’t mean giving him a brand new truck off the showroom floor. Shit happens, and people make mistakes. Hell the lift could of had a mechanical failure, we don’t know all the details. Life rolls on. It’s not the end of the world. No one was hurt and that’s the important thing.

No you're right, MG made the midget and Triumph the spitfire. I always get those two confused because they're so similar and rivaled eachother. Talk about insanely fun to drive. Had a dude show up to a track day with one and let me ride along. Holy crap the lateral G's. Dude just chucked it into turns and it just went like a beefeater to the Queen's order.

    An aside:

My dad had a 1972 Triumph GT6 2+2 when I was a young child (5 or 6 maybe). He used to wrench on it in the grass driveway we had at our old house.

My absolute proudest moments, that I remember clearly to this day (now 46), was when he would inevitably drop a nut, washer, or fuse, into the grass. It was my job to climb under the car and find the missing item in the grass. When I found it I would be so proud. Anyways......drifting off into childhood memories here.

That 2+2 has back seats with literally no footwell. When my brother and I grew to the point where we had actual legs, the car had to go. It was traded for a 1970 Pontiac Strato-Cheif (Canada only model) that was a fuckin’ huge boat. As a child in the back seat is was like going from living in a cat carrier to running around a gymnasium (seat belts were not really a thing we discussed back then). The size of that back seat in that Pontiac amazed me.

The Strato-Chief saved my life. My mom was driving me somewhere when we were T-boned by a Saab that ran a stop sign. The Saab hit the door beside me at full speed. The Pontiac took the hit like a champ, and the Saab exploded into a million pieces (quite literally). If I had been in the Saab, and T-boned by the Pontiac, we would have both been mince meat.

LOL, you and I are the same age, and the backseat of dad's LeSabre ('71) was so big my folks filled the footwells with pillows, and let me use it as a play pen. Unlike millennials, I was under age 2 , not over age 20. And unlike the OP, dad's car never fell off a lift. :)

My mom would literally tell me to “go in the back seat and have a play” if I was getting bored when her and I were running errands in the Pontiac. Those were the days.

Oh man that reminds me of my mom's old Gran Marquis. I remember her taking us to the pool in that thing and having to lay down towels on the pleather bench to keep from burning our asses... The seatbelts still branded the shit out of us on many occasions though.

I’d have to reread the thread to be certain but I don’t recall anyone advocating for a brand spanking new vehicle being offered as a result of this episode. Rather, compensating the owner by purchasing the truck for what it would cost to buy it off a dealer lot at the same year and mileage. He could, if he wanted, turn around and buy a new truck by paying the difference. Or the dealership could offer him a credit at that same valuation. If anyone said new truck I think they just meant an equal value replacement.

The point is that given the severity of a drop off a lift, and the unusual stresses that drop may have put on the frame and other components, the truck may have damage beyond just body work. And it may be difficult to tell, it may manifest itself further down the road. I think that uncertainty is a big deal.

Great post! Not even close to being on topic, but so refreshing to hear from someone who is not suffering from testosterone overload.

It's just a fucking truck. Let it get fixed and move on.

No there was atleast 1 person maybe more that said something about walking to the showroom and picking a truck off the showroom floor. I understand what most people mean. A truck that is comparable in value, mileage, etc. I didn’t see the damage to the rear of the cab until after the post, and to properly blend that in, you will need to paint the entire cab. So at this point something like that wouldn’t be out of reason, if the OP doesn’t want the truck repainted. The truck didn’t just drop 6 feet on a free fall. Even if it completely ended up coming off the lift, the front hit the top of the cross bar and the rear would of slide off. This greatly reduces the impact. The front probably never touched the ground until the lowered the lift. I doubt there was much of a drop force at all, if any. The left arms lock in place when the lift is up. The arms shouldn’t move. Sounds like the truck just had too much counter weight in the back because of the cap and slide backwards off the pads. The rear arms are probably what saved the techs life, if he was under it when it happened.

It sucks that it happened. But that isn’t the first vehicles that’s came off a lift and won’t be the last. I wouldn’t be happy but I also wouldn’t be a dick about the situation, like some are saying they would be. That’s not gonna get you any further with anything in the situation. And while they are responsible for the damages without a doubt, that doesn’t mean they should hand over the keys to a brand new truck or the entire dealership for a ACCIDENT. Accidents happen, it wasn’t intention or malicious. That would be the only time I could see someone losing their shit.

Cause when one side goes down the other side goes up, and when it went up it ran into the lift above.

Done. I sincerely apologize. Three comments out of 500+ saying this guy should get a brand new truck.

The vast majority are folks saying, at best, he should get excellent trade in value for his truck pre-drop and a great price on a new truck from the dealership. And pay the difference. I personally think that’s the right thing for the dealership to do. I also think if they do anything less, and the OP were to sue for the devaluation, the dealership would wish they’d just bought the truck. Not that it makes a lot of sense to sue, because once the lawyers get involved, everyone kind of loses. Except the lawyers.

Also, the dealership should probably be scared that the OP could post up reviews of his experience, identifying the dealership and posting the photos. If he stays factual they can’t do a damn thing about it.

Myself I think everyone is scaring the shit out of the OP, bickering with one another. Let the man come back with his report and I would not blame him a bit to leave you all hanging. Suppose to help and suggest to everyone, not put people down because they answered the post. We all have different ideas and suggestions. Let the OP relax already...........
