My truck passed smog again! Woot!

Edit...it failed visual inspection at the 1st place I went to.

The guy said he couldn't see my cat because the skid plate was in the way. I said you can see the cats...there are 2 of them...oh you didn't' know there were 2? They're right here (me pointing at them). Did you even try to look? Surely you have a mirror or use your cell phone on selfie mode and showed him what I meant. Dude just shrugged his shoulders.

Next he said I had a fueling modification and pointed to my blue seas fuse block. I asked him to show me how that's a fueling modification and he just shrugged his shoulders. So I took 10 minutes to explain how my fuse block is run off the aux battery and everything that's hooked up to that is 100% isolated from the rest of the truck.

Third he said "something is T-ed into the evap system"..that's my auxiliary fuel tank. So I showed him how the T actually makes it smog legal. I asked if he actually knows how evap systems work....shrugged shoulders.

I also explained it's passed smog 2 times with the current set up. Have the smog laws changed in the past few years? More shoulder shrugging.

So I went back to the place I went to last time and passed no problem.

Took off the camper shell and found some good sized dents in the back of the cab and the bed is cracked in the front passenger corner.

My 4wd wasn't working on Saturday. I could hear the transfer case actuator doing it's thing but no dash light indicating 4wd. I put the truck up on jack stands and spun the wheels in 4wd and 2wd. The 4wd definitely wasn't working.

The day after I bought the truck in 2012 the front wheel drive actuator died and I had it replaced by a shop for $800. It's only 6.5 years old with 110,000 miles on it so I didn't think it was that.

I removed the actuator and bench tested it and it worked. So I reconnected it to the truck..still didn't work.
Removing that thing is a pain in the ass. You have to remove the front diff mount bolts and disconnect the drive shaft.

Next, I disconnected and reconnected all the plugs. After I did the one on top the transfer case it worked....just a faulty connector in the end. I cleaned all the plugs with contact cleaner.

While I'm in there I drained the diff fluid. The RTV for the actuator needs to finish curing so I'm going to put new diff fluid in today.

    The only pic I took-

POR15 after good scrubbing, degreasing and POR15 metal prep.

I have POR15 caliper paint which I still need to paint over the regular POR15.

Edit: I might just leave it as plain POR15 though.

Taquito got new sprockets and a new chain today.

Also, a couple years ago I broke the shifter off. At the time we fixed it with a tent stake we found.
I found the broken off piece under the front sprocket cover.

I replaced my windshield in mid March because it had a crack across the length.

Today I got this giant dime size chip on 880.

New Wheels and Tires. Well, I've had the wheels for 2 years. I got them on Ebay for like $362 for 5 of them.
Picked up the tires - Maxxis BigHorm M762 255 85 16's on sale at Simple Tire for $865 including installation. This is my second set of these tires.

I’m selling it...hopefully. Otherwise it’s gonna get recycled.

Let me ask the question in a different way. What is going on your truck where the bed used to be?

Just an upgraded hard shell taco. More like a burrito maybe? Hard shell burrito?
I guess that would be a Chimichanga.
(Flat bed pop up camper...don’t tell anyone)

Yeah, they’re not bad. For the price they’re great. I was going to get a set of Cooper ST MAXX but decided against them at the last minute. They’re super nice and arguably better than the big horns in a lot of ways. They’re also $600 more for 5 tires.

I have Cooper ST Maxx's right now. They have lasted a long time and they're tough, but snow and sand get packed into the treads and they turn into racing slicks. Yokohama just came out with a 255/85r16 Geolandar M/T, so I ordered a set of those after almost going for the Bighorns.

The big horns do well in mud, sand and loose deep snow. They don’t do well in packed snow and rain. They last so so for a mud terrain.
Im interested to see what you think of the geolamder M/T’s.
