Hi everyone I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Trd sport . I have front and rear king shocks,
total chaos control arms, deaver leaf spring. It was squeaking before and I fixed the squeak but now I’m hearing a clunk to the rear of my truck . Any ideas what it might be ?

    Thanks in advance.

I've got a 17 stock with leveling kit. I get a clunking noise when I drive it first thing in the morning and head down the street to my first stop light. As I come to a slow stop, it sounds like the driveline clunks into place when I stop. It resonates from the rear end... I took it to the dealer as its a dealer install and all they did was re-tighten the spacer bolts and u-bolts....

    Any thoughts

This usually happens to mine as well until engine and fluids are all up to proper temperature.
Some say axle wrap. Mine feels more like a hard downshift from 2nd to 1st in the AT

Best to torque to around 80 to 85 ftlb

When braking the axle and wheels seem to travel at different speeds and when finally stopped together it causes kinda like what feels like being hit in the rear end some times associated with a sound "clunk"

    Toyots says it normal.
But can be a sign of low transmission fluid or diff oil

Do you think a "differential drop spacer" will help to keep the u joints from stressing

axle wrap is caused by the inertia of the wheels and tires working against the spring packs... since there is no traction bar, or anti-wrap bar on the axle is is free to an extent to try and roll backward during acceleration (counter to the wheel spin), ad opposite during braking, or reverse. this can alter the pinion, and driveshaft angle enough to cause binding in the u-joints on your driveshaft.. some lifts require you to drop the carrier bearing for the rear driveshaft.. as well as a front diff drop to accommodate the CV shafts. the reason they call it wrap is because in extreme cases vehicles have literally wrapped the leafpacks,.... making them form an "s" shape...

    this is axle wrap:

using something like this prevents the axle from trying to twist up or down, keeping the pinion pointed at the same direction... some dont like them as they can bind, or cause issues down the road.. mainly why when doing serious offroading you would opt for a proper triangulated 4 link suspension...

Got rid of the squeak and clucking sounds . Thanks for all the advice. Turns out I was missing lug nuts on the u bolt . I was missing two on each side idk if someone took them off or if they just happen to fall off the same on both sides . Weird but fixed . Thanks again

I don,t understand how nuts can fall off. I would watch where you park maybe. I get a clunk when my gears shift some times, on the Tacoma. almost feels like a drive shaft problem as I felt this when driving my older cars,

I don’t think they fell off but I rather not think about someone removing them because I’ll get mad . I’m definitely keeping an eye on them now though .

Mine makes a clunking noise mainly when I come to a stop and then put it in reverse to back into a garage space. I took it in to Toyota and they couldn't find anything. They didn't even look underneath it, just test drove it and could not duplicate it. I am going to check the u bolts and springs this afternoon to see if I can find anything. It seems to be getting worse.
