Some people just put their gun on in the morning and it just stays there until bed.

Just curious because your post is a little ambiguous...do you have a CHL or reside in a state with constitutional carry?

Literally one of the first things I do. Even if I’m staying at home I’m still carrying. Once ya get into a routine it’s second nature. Was always taught it’s better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

If years of the military and law enforcement taught me anything it’s that you should always have a sidearms with you and be proficient with it.

I keep a fire extinguisher handy for the same reason.

On a side note: Human predators aren't the only reason I wear my sidearm when out in the wilds.
Long true story attached to that, however I'm not going to expound on it in the OP's thread.

Nearly 25 years later, I carry ON me, whenever I'm out in the north 40. Period.

There are plenty of people that don't carry (in deserted places or not) and do just fine without. There are also plenty of people who kayak and go out on boats without life vests and do just fine without. Plenty of people that drive without seat belts and do just fine without.

    Until they don't.

Personal choice. Damn fukin' right I'm "free" to do so if I chose.... It's about reducing vulnerabilities where and when practical to do so. Can one completely eliminate them by doing those things? No. But they can be greatly reduced by doing so. You can feel free to take your chances with the small odds nothing will ever happen. That's your choice. I'll put the odds considerably more in my favor on the slight chance I ever need to.

The chances of me ever needing my first aid kit or SPOT messenger while out in the sticks miles from anywhere or anyone is pretty damned tiny too. But I have them and have those options should the need arise, because to have the option and not make it available to myself because of the small odds I would ever actually use them would be asinine. And should something happen where either of those items could have been of help, and they were left at home or not even purchased, I think everyone would agree that were the worst to happen most would say "what a dumb ass. He went out hiking / hunting / camping and wasn't prepared".

CA does issue them but it’s not easy to get... people have to have a pretty strong reason to have it, but I don’t work law enforcement anymore either so I would have no extenuating circumstances to get it if I wanted one.

In my opinion this is a false equivalence. Yes, both seatbelts and firearms can save your life, but in reality one is orders of magnitude more likely to do so.

Seatbelts, lifejackets, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, backup communications, navigation equipment, proper attire and provisions are all far more important than carrying. I don't have any problem with people that choose to, it's just something I consider a low priority (relatively).

I do like the OP's setup, my ladder rack has pulled similar duty to good effect

Expound away! I’ll start... over the years I’ve had several encounters with bears and cougars. I haven’t always had a weapon with me but I can safely say that I sure felt better when I was packing than when I was naked!
