Had a great ride today with @ajmogen!

We caught the T.W.A.T near Richland Center and cruised up to HWY 54. Lots of great scenery, and plenty of Amish traffic.

Thanks again for joining me today, Aaron! And thanks for lunch! I'm going to have to visit again just to get another one of those burgers.

    Forgot the obligatory picture!

Also, the deer were out! I saw easily another 30 after we split up and had 2 close calls. Be safe out there!

I really like that area east of Black River Falls both north and south of Hwy 54. Beautiful part of the state, you could spend a lot of time just exploring the roads in the BRSF and Jackson County Forest. Jackson County Forest is about the only place in southern Wisconsin that has semi-dispersed camping. You can camp wherever you like but need to register and pay $5 for a permit.

The TWAT was great yesterday. Beautiful scenery, cool wet snow just north of Richland Center. Easy run. Ended at hwy54 near BRF.
That's when things got interesting.I decided to hop on 94 because the amount of deer moving, and told Garmin to get me home.
    DON'T TRUST GARMIN
Garmin and Google took me on a 2 hour detour through Wasburn Marsh and Millston Sand Barrons.
Alone, no recovery gear, low on gas, no food, and limited water and spotty at best cell service; no one knew where I was at, I was worried. I honestly didn't think I would make it out of the soft rutted out sand trails I was on.
I regrouped, took inventory of my assets and aired down when I reached a dead end at twilight. 20PSI, 4HI, 1st gear holding momentum the whole way off of this trail.
I continue to be amazed with the performance of this truck and what it can get through.
    Lesson learned: don't trust garmin.

That sounds like a great route. You should bookmark those roads for future exploration.

Glad you made it out man.

If you don't have them yet, physical maps are great to have - one of highways, of backroads, parks etc. You can get these free and sent to your door via Travel WI

Thanks, I've got a good physical map, by the time I realized I wasn't in a good spot, it was too late. I was in this area and none of the maps I read were accurate. All's well that ends well

I need to get up north there. It’s a 5.30 hr trip from the ol St. Louie. I’d want to do a Friday night and Saturday. Let’s try to plan out something again @Thatbassguy @ajmogen @Shellshock and whoever else wants to get out.

Sounds good! The next few weeks are busy for me. I'm hoping to get out on Memorial day weekend with @BookieBob and others, but not sure if I'll be free. I wouldn't mind a cruise the following Saturday, but was hoping to check out mall crawlers and coffee as well. So much to do! Summer's too short!

086B1C10-2CED-406E-BD5B-8234AA1EFDE4.jpg I need to check in here more. It would be great to meet up and go trail riding with y’all. I spent this weekend working on the truck and installed my lift Friday and got the alignment done on Saturday. I have KO2’s in 265/75/16 tires and want to go to a Dark Bronze colored wheel to mount them on. That will be my next investment.

Damn. I was thinking of working this Saturday. I might have to skip it. I have a place near Eau Claire I can crash Friday night, if it's not under water. Hmmm....o_O

What's really sad is that there are a lot of campgrounds that have been closed temporarily or perhaps permanently due to some political bullshit. Funding, allegedly. But, who knows.

We tried going back to one of our favorite spots a few year ago and were met with barricades. It was quite disappointing.

I sure hope some of the smaller campgrounds can eventually re-open as those are some of the best places to visit. I would gladly pay higher prices if it would help.

On a related note, I'm thinking of doing a camping trip to the Lakewood/Laona district with a day of hitting the pipeline. I'm thinking the 3rd or 4th weekend of September. I'll post details here as it comes together. Anyone with ideas feel free to PM me.
