Either way c channel is weaker especially in that scenario when the stress is all on the c channel from the fall. If the hood it the top of the lift it had to be at about half height maybe a little more

I wonder if their polices change so that if the tires don't have to come off to use a 4 post vs 2 post though

I didn’t read through all of these, but if it where me,
and this would be at the dealers cost and they would still provide the rental car where needed.

    A) I would want another body shop to check it out, if they don’t specialize in frames, then I would want a frame shop to check it, measure it and make sure it is still true and it aligns correctly.
    B) Another independent shop to check over the suspension and anything else that could of been affected by the accident.
    C) An extended warranty for 100k mile at the dealers expense and that you can transfer to next buyer, piece of mind for that buyer, since you said you would tell them about it.
    D) Free loaner for all future service work.

Everything might be OK, but I would want someone not connected to the dealer to verify that.

I work in the tire business, mainly construction and mining. I've seen a lot of things fall. Damage is usually minimal. Not saying that is the case here, but I doubt it's as serious as the TW makes it. Body bed lines being off is extremely common on these truck, that could be as simple as loosening bolts and lining it up, but who knows.

How do I react? Well I certainly dont try to stop it, but I make sure I'm always in a safe place, so I usually just watch it happen. It looks like you're watching something fall in slow motion.

No their insurance would cover it and they’d be 5 lugging the sand.

Wrong, act of god so the owner of the vehicle would have to use their insurance. The shop is not responsible for earthquake damage.

HA! I pity the shop that would try to give a broken truck back to me blaming the damage on a god

Yes. Accidents do happen. A few years ago we took my wife’s Camry in for service . A mechanic backed another car into it damaging a rear quarter panel. The dealer provided a loaner car and made it right without complaint.

Sorry to hear about your truck.

One of the downsides of a great economy is too few qualified workers to take jobs.

Here in Asheville I was told that every dealership in my area is down two auto techs. All the best techs who graduate from AB tech and are certified go to Charlotte to work in NASCAR. NASCAR, I'm told, is a bottomless pit for technicians.

Sounds like some lunchtime "boys will be boys" horseplay at work here, or some really poor safety stds in the shop. I have a two post at home and I made the investment and use my balance jacks every time.

My litmus test is if I went to look at the truck for sale, and the owner told me it had been dropped off a two post, would I still buy it... man, I have to say the price would need to be much below typical market for the same truck without the drop.

I believe I'd ask dealer for reduction from KBB cash settlement similar to as if the truck had a salvage title and start my negotiating from there. They may actually counter with the trade in on new model offer, if that's what you are wanting.

Also, agree having another shop check the frame and susp for alignment, bed/cab shift, etc.

I think the video would be helpful to see exactly how far it fell/how it hit so I could know what absorbed the fall would help direct my request to them

Was it like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTPnIpjodA8 Or did it slip off from 4' up?

But would still likely be covered under their comprehensive garage-keepers coverage since the vehicle was in the dealership's insured care. But more than likely, it'll just depend on the very different and very unique coverage that varies from garage to garage & dealer to dealer.

I saw a guy lift a full sized van by the pinch welds, it put holes right through the body.

I've seen another at the same shop lift a GTR with carbon skirts and just break them off and keep working, 1500$ each.

My old independent had a guy get fired for overlifting a truck and bending its roof. He won the law suit.

I've had 3 trucks slip off locks. I've seen 3 others fail and slowly drop.

My job sucks, and its dangerous. But I don't have to talk to people at least!
