2017 DCSB TRD OR 6MT. 33k miles. Stock engine setup.

    • Noticed a stutter at highway speeds, typically under load (slight incline), usually 5th or 6th gear, *steady throttle*. Truck would lurch and stutter as if I were tapping the throttle, but pedal was steady.
    • At idle, truck stuttered hard, RPM dipping from 200 to 1,000 quickly. Eventually the truck died. I was able to restart it, but TRAC OFF and CEL lights were on.
      • P0171 - System too lean / bank 1
      • P0174 - System too lean / bank 2
      • P1170 - Fuel performance / fuel injector
    • Took it to dealer
      • They did the typical dealer multi point inspection but said they couldn't reproduce either the highway or idle stutter.
      • Dealer said that the gas could be the culprit. I ran 3 tanks of 93 after that
        • I didn't notice any issues during these tanks
    • Switched back to 87
      • 150 miles into 1st tank of 87, slight stumble at idle.
    • Truck idled very rough and then died. Codes came back.
    • I stupidly cleared the codes
    • Took truck back to dealer, asked them to perform vacuum check and check injectors
      • They said they did that, and they couldn't get it to show the symptoms again
    • Got the truck back, drove it 100 miles. Hwy stutter returned, rough idle returned. Codes are back.
Google video album of issues here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2tkLHQoJUJXUG1Eh7

I'm taking it back to dealer tomorrow.

    Here's where I need help.

    1. Does this sound like a poorly performing fuel pump?

    2. How do I get the dealer to investigate it seriously and/or replace the fuel pump? This is my first new truck ever, and I'm at a loss how to get them to take this warranty issue seriously.

Call Toyota and make a case. You’ll get a case number. Your dealership will work better with you after that case number. Toyota will call the service department

Have you installed a cold air intake? I only ask is that a MAF sensor could be dirty.

Thank you. No CAI - engine is totally stock. Dealer tech said they cleaned the MAP sensor on Friday (two days ago) and that it looked good. <100 miles of driving after that, issues are back, codes came back.

I just added a video of the engine compartment while it's running normally to that Google album. Does that sound "chirpy" to y'all? From googling "fuel pump chirp" in other cars, it doesn't sound too similar to me.

    Thanks for the help.

@jesserin - Is there a specific department to call at Toyota to get that started / create some pressure on the dealer?

Change gas station. Make sure your gas station is “Top Tier” fuel.

No - that's what is driving me crazy. Should that tell me something about the issue?

It's worth noting that that I use many different gas stations, as I travel for work. So I know this is not a case of crappy gas from one station.

Oh. I see. At least we know it’s not the gas stations then. Have you done any “tune” to the ECM?

No ECM tune. Stock engine. I have a RAM windshield suction cup mount for my cell phone, but I can't imagine that it's the culprit.

LOL. No. I can’t see that being the problem.

Are y'all able to view the videos in the Google album? Does the engine bay video sound like fuel pump chirping to you?

I’ve watched them all. I don’t hear the fuel pump chirp. The fuel pump is in your fuel tank. I’m just wondering if your CPS (crank positioner sensor) is starting to go.

I do believe there was a TSB on those crank shaft sensors for models 2016-2017. They were getting corroded. A lot of people on here changed them and admitted they idled a lot smother. The part number is 90919-05098. And make sure there is an = sign on the sensor for the new updated one.

Thanks. I'm reading about the CPS issue on other threads right now. Did that cause it to throw a code? Was the idling from a bad CPS as bad as the videos I've posted?
