    2019 limited
i have been driving a 2005 Trunda since new and received very good service. When time come to replace it I decided to go with the Tacoma because I didn’t have a need for a large truck anymore. Kids were gone and I sold my landscape business so I wanted a smaller truck. Easier to park. I wanted a limited model and they are hard to find. I found a used one so I took to for a test drive. It was a 2017. Drove find ams had a smooth ride. Very quiet inside. My local dealer received a 2019 limited one in silver with black leather. I made an offer and they took it. Basically I bought it without test driving it. Two things I don’t like. The cruse control will drop the transmission down two gears and run the RPMs up to 4500 when it needs to speed up. I can maintain speed using my foot without racing the engine so hard.
Also the transmission likes to get in high gear too quickly. Running. 45 it’s in six gear and when you accelerate it Boggs until the transmission can down shift enough gears to speed up. If I drive it in sport mode it’s much better but you have to hand shift if you go past fourth gear. I shouldn’t have to drive it like this. I have a Lexus LS 350 that is smooth as glass. Toyota has the ability to make it shift properly but they are saying that’s the way it is. I love Toyota cars but very disappointed in the new Tacoma.

I does take a little while to learn but the transmission still goes to 6th way too easily imo. Mine isn't too bad after 13K but it's pretty flat around here in MN. I have a 2018 Limited. Another option is to just drive it in S5 most of the time or look at something like OVTune or ShiftSensePro. The ECT button also seems to make the transmission shift less sucky as well.

Hope you start to like it and can enjoy it for the long term.

In before this turns into a dumpster fire!

As in 2k to 5k miles, it will get better but if you think it will be snappy, it won't, and yes 6th by the time your doing 35

Just get OVTune and be done with it. Best investment/mod I've done to my truck hands down.

Just push the ETC button and it’ll help a lot with the transmission sucking.

Like the other guys said, give it some time. It’ll either grow on you or you’ll hate it even more.

    Enjoy the truck :D:D

Edit: I do really like mine now, the cruise is always like that on mine still. That’s where the power is on these motors, gotta wind em right up and they will pull.

I had my Tacoma for 15K miles and it never stopped being dumb with shifting.

My transmission got better at about 1500 miles. It is still a little quirky but either I got used to it or it got better.

It gets better after the learning phase is over. I love my 16 limited 4x4 but purchased the OVTune last Friday because I want to a little more performance out of the truck.
