Flatbed,35’s and Mainly Parked For Repairs

I have a fix in mind but sucks pretty hard to pay full price and have something fail within a year.

Lol no no. There are people in way worst positions that would be more deserving.

They are letting me know what can be done. So far very good. Accepting emails and helping out. Issue is they may just offer me a replacement which would be hard to swallow considering the work to replace vs the work to fix. Easier to fix in my opinion.

 

Let them know about all the time and work you put in. They need to throw something else in for compensation. Will they want the damaged one back? If not you repair it and sell it. I find all the cap/shell companies make garbage quality stuff. You should see the fit and finish on my LEER. I had to add silicone to the top brake light because it leaked water inside. Hardware is weak. Anyway, it's all shit.

 

Lol don’t tell me about the quality. I have a 1/8-3/16 gap from the floor to my back wall. Talk about water getting in. Honestly my biggest regret isn’t take the time and building one. It would have been slightly more but I would have been set up for aluminum, had a tougher cap. But time and money was a bit of an issue. This seemed like a better option at the time. Love and learn.

 

The replacement one will crack at the welds too. As an ARE aluminum cap owner, it is obvious how little time they put in to these.
Poor welds plus they only weld 1 or 2 of the 4 sides at the joins.

They might not be able to repair without damaging the aluminum skin.

This seems to be the ultimate solution. But I could never drop $10k on what is essentially an aluminum box.

Yeah my issue was the 3k local (cnd and no shipping involved) vs the 10k usd price tag with the shipping. In hindsite I should have just made one. Live and learn. I am going to repair it though (already so deep). Between the fish plates that I plan to rivet in place and then braze some rod in where I can, it should be better. Considering the situation it is my cheapest and least invasive solution as of right now.

Worst case.....cap 3.0 or 4.0. Don’t even no where I am at....

 

I opted to build a steel frame for my flatbed and then skin it in 1/4" dibond (alu and polycarbonate sandwich). I wanted to avoid issues with aluminum welds cracking and did 2x2 steel for the inner frame. Sucks that the welds cracked, my welder advised against an aluminum frame for that reason when I had him make the skeleton. Before this I had an ARE cap just like yours as well.

Very cool rig! Yeah Definetly good to know as I have a feeling I’ll be building a new one at some point.

Did you make yours easily removable for a camp setup? Or even able to jack it up and off but with a pin system instead of bolts?

 

daaaaammmnnnnnnnittt!!! wow that sucks dude haha get some Low Temperature Aluminum Welding Rods. they are inexpensive and from what I have been told and read they work really well and are strong as hell. guy I know used them to fix his boat and for other things. things he fixed, the welds help up really well to the point where when it broke it broke around the weld haha

 

Already ahead of ya. I got some brazing rods, some l brackets I made, and some 3/16” rivets. My goal is to not only get it fixed but have it fixed before ARE emails me back.....they are so slow.

well I was hoping either you or @TeecoTaco could meet up @Thyces when he is heading into the GTA area. I think he said he is heading into Toronto area mothers day weekend. so if you are able to get the bumper that weekend then I could make a day drip drive down on the weekend of the 18th and meet up with you in Oshawa so I can avoid having to drive right into Toronto. I don't think I will be able to make it to Ardbeg, my boss is being chinsy with extra days off.
