    Anyone gone anywhere the past couple weeks? We're hoping to head up somewhere this weekend - I know the snow is still an issue at a lot of places. Probably go somewhere Friday after work until Sunday.

    It's always such a stark contrast in places like Bishop, Joshua Tree, and other towns where there's all these incredible natural surroundings that define those places, but the towns themselves are economically depressed and it shows.

    Nothing like seeing a night sky overloaded with stars and planets, though. And nothing like sleeping in the back of the truck when those E Sierra winds really start howling.

    If anyone's headed out that way in the next couple weeks, they just opened Monitor Pass.

    Economically depressed? Mammoth is having a huge influx of money since the buyout. I'm a carpenter and get paid better then most guys swinging a a hammer in any city. It's all about your skill set as far as making a living in Bishop goes. That's true anywhere you go though.

    Mammoth is a resort town which is a totally different can of worms. Lots of LA people and LA money. I always get a kick of seeing all those private jets sitting there at the airport.

    I can fly fish but I prefer to huck mini-jigs on 2lb test with my nine foot jig rod. I fish a lot and used to be a fly purist. Then I decided I like catching fish. Lol
