I Have an 09 2wd auto base model and have the Pioneer X2800BS head unit installed. I never had a rear view LCD but do have the factory camera in the tailgate. Do I need to make a 12V to 6V converter?

Ok so after more research I realize I needed the converter. Successfully made one and connected everything. The camera turns on when in reverse, but no image! I checked the cam settings on the HU w/ no luck. Could it be possible that I previously fried the camera by using the d sub pin method w/o the voltage converter?

If you want to turn off the LCD in mirror you can put in reverse and hold down auto button for like 10 seconds and will turn off and show red light and only Hu cam will come on from then on. Auto dim will still work.

Finally about three days of messing around with the settings and contacting Eonon. I now have successfully done this mod!! Thanks everyone for the input.

Stereo Eonon: GA2168. So after getting a response from Eonon on Facebook messenger for the extra settings PIN and receiving a diagram from them. I was able to change the settings to activate the camera function on the stereo.

I used the OP’s original mod and tapped into the mirrors plug on the drivers side by the fuse box. I connected the reverse wire from the stereo near the cabin air filter to trigger the stereo.

I also have a 2009 that has the camera in the tailgate but did not come with the rear view mirror with the screen/power source for the camera. I am using the red 12v reverse wire from the connector directly above the camera connector (behind the coin tray as discussed on the first page of this thread) for BOTH the camera's power source and the reverse trigger and my camera is working. I had seen on YouTube that someone had been successfully using a 12v source to power the camera with no ill effects so I figured I would give it a try. The explanation that was provided in the comments of the YouTube video is that there is not enough amperage in play here to cause any damage. All this is to say that I doubt you fried anything by attempting this modification without the 12v to 6v converter.

On another topic, the one odd thing I have noticed is that even though my Sony XAV-AX100 automatically switches to camera viewing mode when I shift into reverse, it does NOT switch out of camera mode when I shift out of reverse. The camera feed stops and then I have to hit the home button on the head unit to go back to the main screen. Anybody else have this weird issue?

EDIT: This only seems to happen if the ignition is on but the engine is off. Will report back if anything changes.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but does someone have the connector part numbers to the 4 pin connector shown in the first post of this thread? I figure it will start with a 90980. I can't seem to find it anywhere online.

hbarraza1983 I ask you, does your tacoma bring the monitor of the camera in the rearview mirror? and if so, how could you unplug it and see it only on the stereo?

No, I kept it on. When I turned the mirror off I would get a blue screen regardless. I can’t remember if people have successful even able to completely turn off the camera on the mirror.

For some odd reason the camera turned off completely today. When I was in reverse I pressed the button on the mirror and the camera turned off completely. So now I only get the video on the stereo.

can someone help me out. i did the reverse cam mod so the camera comes up on my entune radio.
    i installed a 2015 radio in my 2010.
now my only thing i need to do next is figure how to disable the mirror screen from turning black and than blue when i go in reverse.
i unplugged the harness above where i plugged in the camera plug on the new harness i got which is basically the same thing as the one camera source sells but with the 28 pin connector instead of the one for the 2012/13 radio. and when i unplugged the mirror didn’t work which is good but it also disabled my compass.
my question is can i just cut this red wire which is pointed to right here which is the reverse signal and that will solve my issue?

we all have the same problems because we have gone through what you are going through, and the only solution we have arrived is if you pull the wires directly from the camera, that is from the back of the bus

hmmm. well if you unplug the mirror it obv works. all i have is an auto dim mirror.
but if you unplug that connector above the camera plug the mirror doesn’t come on.
someone said if i snip that red wire it will do the trick. but i dont want to snip without knowing for a fact it will work

I do not advise you to cut it because afterwards it does not work the auto dimmer of the mirror

i already unplugged that harness. and when i did the auto dim on the rear view mirror was still on. the monitor screen was disabled.
so i’m pretty sure i can cut that red wire

Did you ever get a reply to your question? I have a 2013 and have the same 4-pin connector on the driver side. I want to make a custom harness with soldered connections instead of pressed in fittings.
