What a drongo. Why didn't he just 180 spin like everybody else does.

 

I think where he went into was kind of "tight", so doing a 180 would probably cause him to smash into the wall.

 

In a post race interview , Ricciardo said he assumed Kvyat had cut back from outside and made the corner and that he was in a panic to find reverse to minimize the lap time damage . If you watch the replay you can see he never looks at his sidepod mirrors , he's looking at the steering wheel the whole time

 

Yeah... definitely. I was thinking the same thing. I didn't watch the post race stuff, but figured that's what happened, and what he thought. Which makes sense honestly.

 

It was a rookie mistake and he should have known better and looked at his mirrors.

 

Ricciardo seems to be suffering from a massive crisis in confidence this year and is driving like a rookie pay driver. I really expected him to handle the slower more problematic car more like an Alonso or Raikkonen.

 

Agreed! I really like the "Moneybadger" but his decision to leave RB is looking to be a colossal mistake. He is really off his game and looks terrible this year. Hope he turns it around, but even if he does the Renault's not going to be strong enough to be competitive. Your right, I'd like to see him take this in stride like Alonso or the Ice man. Just goes to show how fragile egos can be at the top levels.

That's a given. It's a Renault.

 

Even Ricciardo said the Renault would not be as competitive as the Red Bulls right off the bat when he announced his switch to Renault . Not really all that shocking .

 

What Ricciardo didn't account for was the dark clouds following him from Red Bull to Renault.

 

High level sports performance after a certain point of physical accomplishment is mostly mental. The moneybadger seems to have become a bit of a headcase. Like a journeyman major league baseball outstanding hitter that suddenly can't hit a weak breaking ball to save his ass. Usually it's just a slump and sometimes its the end of a career.

His fault or not it's still a slump. There is no asterisk on the DNF.

 

K , I'm not going to continue to argue anyone's opinion but I think you guys have lost the plot . If he was being consistently outmatched by Hulkenberg in the same car then I could see it , but he's not , and I don't , and it's been 4 races , not 40

 

Who's arguing? I'm only discussing his bad luck of DNF's. 8 last year, 3 this year already. That to me is a bad luck slump. Difference last year was he was in a podium capable car and finished higher. I agree it's early in his Renault season though.
