Anyone waitin on 3rd Gen just for the updated 4.0

Is anyone hesitating to pull the trigger on a 2011 for the next gen Taco 4.0 and the increase in power or at least to see what it looks like?

 

Yes. I hope its more than an update 4.0

 

I have that new 4.0 in my 2010 4-Runner and its nice. Much better mileage and a little more power. Did I mention 22 mpg?

I highly doubt Toyota is going the change the body that much... Look how long the 1st gens lasted with the same body. Only things changed is the same trend their doing with the second gen. Tail lights, Headlights, Grill, dashboard, Bumper, etc... its the little things that toyota will continue to update on the taco, but its gonna be awhile till they completely change the whole body.

 

I could have sworn I've seen pics of the '11 models posted on here. The only thing changed is the the grill insert.

Nope. The 3rd Gen is an abstract at this point. I'll drive my 2010 for 8 or 9 years and then buy a new one. What that new will have or not have will be a concern then, not now. I like my truck as it is. Plus, I'd never buy the first year of a new generation vehicle.

 

Not being argumentative with you specifically, just quoting you cus you mentioned it, but I think they will change the entire body in 2012, for sure by 2013. Car manufactures seem to change everything really quickly these days cus it forces people who want the newest body style to constantly trade in and upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I hope they keep it for awhile, but now that the 2011s are out we officially have 7 years of the same body style running...

 

They'll change the bumpers before they do anything to the body. just look at the trend the first gens went through. they even went through a side step model that was hideous in my opinion during the early 2000s

 

True it was the same for 10 years running... luckily they finally ended production of that doughnut delivery van last month

 

first gen tacos were a 10 year run, 95-04.... id expect toyota to do the same for the 2nd gen.... 05-14 would be my guess. Its logical to assume that changing the base platform every 10 years give toyota a huge value rather than redesigning it twice as often or more. Typical Toyota logic, if it ain broke dont fix it.... the PS resovoir on my 2010 is basically the same one on a 73 Corona... Toyota designs it too last and then doesnt mess with it, nuff said

 

I hope you're right, I'm one of those people I mentioned that always wants the newest body style!

 

Well I havent driven one but Im making myself feel better cause Ill never be able to afford a new truck at this rate

 

2013 is the year for a total redesign. I have a friend who works at toyota who met with the guy who designs the 4runner, tacoma, and fj. He's the real deal from japan. 2012 will have another slight change like the 09-11s had.

 

I'm waiting to see if they can make the truck competitive in mileage, but I won't be buying one any time soon. I tend to keep vehicles for a decade or so, which means I still have at least nine years to go (unless something else changes, such as needing something that can more easily carry a car seat...).

 

If that is the case waiting till 2013 for a complete redesign, then why aren't they throwin in the updated 4.0 in the 2011 Taco. Even the Tundra get's the updated 4.0 for 2011. Why would Toyota have 2 seperate 4.0's for yet another year. All signs point to the Taco getting a full redesign in 2012.

 

Tell your friend that making the headlights and tail lights stick out 6" from the rest of the truck (like on the new 4-Runner) looks AWFUL!
I would not buy a new Toyota because of that design characteristic alone!
I bet it's 10 times easier to break and costs a ton of $$$$ too.
