Had an '81 vette if that's what you're talking about. Was pretty loud. Po had some aftermarket exhaust on it and it would set off car alarms in parking lots across 4 lanes of traffic.

The cam profile and high compression do not lend this engine to a good sound with a straight pipe at all. But I'm not riding the band wagon that only V8s can sound good either, I've owned great sounding sixxers.

Because of the dumbasses that only want to hear a V8, the Raptor is getting another drivetrain redesign to a V8 again that will be less reliable and have less power potential (as all Ford V8s do) just because a group of people who couldn't finance the steam off a hotdog concluded in a focus group "doesn't sound like a man's truck". So they're looking to ditch the twin turbo V6 that has amazing power potential for its size, and a rather aggressive sound because "it doesn't sound like a V8".

Those are cool trucks, getting harder to find even in the desert where things survive better

I love the power they can get out of 6 and 4cyl these days but I gotta say, that new Raptor has me laughing at it every time I hear one. The only 6 I've heard that sounds really good is the GT-R. A few others aren't bad (like the 4.0 with TRD exhaust), and lots just need to stay really quiet cause they're bad and they should feel bad.

Of course that's my opinion, yours is different, that's what makes the world an interesting place

Even Toyota realizes turbos are the weak link.

Toyota has never been very power ambitious, hell the flagship V6 can't even muster 300hp. Turbos have come a long way since the ones in the mid 80s that made everyone believe they were unreliable. Now if you tune properly (which we had trouble with back in the 80s due to poor sensing technology) things last a long time and even a quality journal bearing turbo can last out to 300k.
