Thoughts on Disney? I don’t like the dividend ratio I saw however I just watch the Avengers with my kids. Theater reaction was strong and Then there is the pipeline trailers...Starwars, Lion King, Aladdin and yet another Marvel movie ..this summer. Toy Story 4- Frozen 2 coming this year. Looking past the lack of original content but these look like strong franchise hit that will draw. Anyone else think Disney stock can move higher?

I’m up 50% on Disney options right now. So I’d say it’s a pretty good buy. I got in a little late though

Does anyone have an opinion of LB, (L Brands, the parent company of Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body Works)? Per the CNBC app, they have a price to earnings ratio of 11.34 and a dividend yield of 4.59%. The next ex dividend date should be around May 21st.

The 20 year chart isn’t pretty, but that doesn’t necessarily matter. I’d rather see a steady up trend than what it shows. It had a big peak in 2015 and then a big drop ($100 down to less than $25 and it wasn’t a split). Nice dividend though.

I dont trade it, but Disney is one of the companies which I am long on. They are one of the positions I leverage for my options trading.
I am not in on them as I don't see a clear value proposition that puts them heads over everyone else, but I personally feel as though they are a good organization that found its bottom. Probably not a bad investment at this point.

I agree with you about the dividend. My other concern would be that they are trading near their 52 week high.

You can attribute that to the new streaming service they just announced ;)

I'm hoping/expecting the 52 week high remains the trend

D'oh, just when I was up a significant amount on UWT, Trump tweets something about oil and it drops 9% in a day. Now I'm only up 8%. :(

Quoting this because inflation (or lack thereof) is the hot topic right now. See page 42 of this thread or thereabouts.

If this is the case, we won't see any more rate hikes. If the trend continues, we may have a deflation problem. Then there'll be talk of rate cuts

By the way, if you look at the flattest line on the chart from my previous post and look at April 1st's.... LOL.

J.P. Morgan still has faith in DIS. Per CNBC today: “Disney shares rose as much as 1.8% after J.P. Morgan hiked its price target on the media giant's stock to $150 per share from $137. The new price target implies a 7.2% upside from Friday's close of $139.92. J.P. Morgan cited the strong performance of Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" movie for the price-target increase, among other factors.”

I venture to say that the stock price that you are already seeing now has Endgame's success already baked in. It was the closing of a franchise (no spoilers here), and based on prior performance everyone knew that it would be huge. That said, the new Disney streaming service has already announced that it will include side stories for like 3 or 4 of the lesser known Avengers crew. That's where the future value lies... People jumping onto the streaming service to remain engrossed in that universe.

Streaming services are starting to get a little ridiculous. There must be 50 of them now (Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu Live, Sling TV, DirecTV Now, Playstation VUE, YouTube TV, Disney, Apple, NBC, and there are a whole lot more). I think it's going to drive people back to cable. I only have cable TV, Xfinity, which is also a streaming service when you're away from the TV and on a phone. I just don't see new streaming services in such a saturated market moving the stock price much.

I am shocked that Pinterest is up 30% since IPO. But how do they make money?? :notsure:

Easy way around this - make it communal. I don't pay for Netflix, HBO, ESPN, and I pay for Hulu. Basically many of us share passwords.. it's the only way to really get around the overloading of subscription costs.

I'm not saying I can't use them, just that I don't pay. Yea, I can log into some of them lol

I am just saying, from a business standpoint, I don't think these "new" streaming services are going to move stock prices much. Maybe DIS if it has some kind of original content, or AAPL if they can pull that off as well. But overall, these things are going to be flops in my opinion.

I completely agree. That said here's where Disney has an advantage... Original content. You, me, and everyone else we know grew up with Disney. Their original content (if contained to their streaming service which I am sure it will be) will be PLENTY of incentive for people to fork over $10/mo to get it. It's insignificant enough for most people to jump in and not even think twice. Companies like Sling, PS VUE, etc are not offering anything original. They are playing courier for specific content. I look at the moat... And Disney has one. NO ONE else has the characters that we all associate so strongly with. Their consumption of Fox added in a couple that they didn't have already. That's where my personal stance is. I'm loading up for hopefully a very long and healthy ride up. Not saying that I'l be right, but I like what I perceive as stability.

I could see NFLX and DIS (for the reasons you stated) surviving for the next decade while many of the others sink. We'll see if AAPL can survive, they have the capital to create original content, so maybe they'll do ok as well. It's just getting out of hand with all of the services lol

I could see Apple being able to make money in spite of itself for the same reason... Affiliation. It's "cool" to have an iPhone in your pocket, have a Mac, have an Apple TV, etc. Apple Music is a shit platform, and that still makes money. They would have to mess it up in order to not make money tbh.
