    Howdy from Turkey,

Figured while I'm out here for my 4 month "deployment":D that i would take advantage of the time and start getting back into shape. I'm 6' 2" and weigh about 160-165 lbs. I'm pretty lean to begin with. However, I've been getting my butt whipped in jiu jitsu bc of my lack of upper body strength and basically getting gassed out.

I picked up some NoXplode pre work out mix, and some Myoplex Deluxe Post work out shakes. Is this a good start?

I was told I needed to start eating a ton of protein along with it. Also, what kind of workouts should I be doing and on what rotation. I'm totally new to this real weight lifting routine. Any tips would be much appreciated on how I can take advantage of my time out here.

i work out 6 days a week i'm pretty hard core .i would get some better protein like some moster milk because it has lots of you bcaa and amino acids witch are critical for hardcore lifting i think .and as work out"s go ther are tons i have a set personlized workout for me that fits me the best and my body just go online and find a good looking one and try it out

noxplod isnt healthy, if you ever read the ingredients. my friend took it and at first he liked it but after a while he didnt feel good when he used it.

just stick with good quality whey protein which will have most of what you need in it with all the additives, and for me i found i liked it best to lift on mon/wed/fri and do cardio(kickboxing/jiu jitsu) on tues/thurs and relaxing on sat/sun.

^^ This. I started taking it a few years ago and ended up having to quit. At first it seems great, because it definitely gets you amped up, but after a few weeks it felt like I was having heart palpitations. I would get home after working out and have to lie down, but my heart rate was hanging at 120bpm...scary stuff. Of everything Ive taken, its the only thing I absolutely would never take again.

Building muscle is all about recovery. Workout every other day to allow a day for your muscles to recover. If you go back to the gym and are doing less weights than you were the previous time you might as well leave because your muscles aren't fully recovered. I use Syntha-6 for my post workout. 44g of protein with two scoops and I've gained 20lbs lean muscle from it so far.
Pre-workout drinks are a waste to me. If you can't motivate yourself to workout then you shouldn't be using supplements to do it for you.
NO will give you more energy but for me it just made me spend half my workout on the toilet.

hmm. good info about recovery, but i disagree with you on the preworkouts= waste.:p
Most pre workouts are NO products. tons of people enjoy NO prework out supplements, but i will agree. No xplode gave me the shits
i stick to superpump or jack3d for my prework out and syntha 6 for my proteenz. :D

    diet is everything.
if you eat like shit, don't expect to gain like 80's arnold.
good diet, creatine, protein, and a solid work out schedule= nice gains

or u can just juice it up. jk

*edit- i am in no way rocky 2 status, but i used to be a panty wetting 150 lb bag of bones lol.finally up to 180*

I use Jack3d. I really like it. It gives you a great pump and then it doesnt just dump you into a crash. Then i use AMP Mass XXX for post workout.

X2!!! post workout is what counts, you need to get essential muscle building/recovery "stuff" back into your body so it can repair. Everyones comments so far have been really good... at 6'2" 160 lbs you sound pretty skinny to start out like me.. true? stay away from cardio intensive exercises. you want to be to doing lower #s of reps at higher weights to be building lean muscle mass, rather than higher #s of reps at a lower weight. for example, if you can bench press 3 sets of 150 lbs, completing 10-12 reps each set without failing a.k.a. needing assistance (with 90-120 seconds rest inbetween each set), then increase the weight and lower the reps, to say 165-170 lbs, failing at 6 reps and having a spotter help you through 2 or 3 more reps to get 8 or 9 total.

I have the highest metabolism known to man haha. needless to say I started as skin and bones, never had to watch AT ALL what I ate or drank. after 6 months of working out, I finally started researching more and paid attention to my post-workout diet, and thats when I finally was able to put some muscle weight on... very slowly... over the last year and a half. Don't expect gains to happen overnight. set goals and meet them one step at a time!

I've been using NO Explode for about 2 years and I have no problem with it. With supplements you have to find what works for you, the best advice I can give you is try to take 5g of creatine before your workout and a protein shake after your workout. Stick to basic exercises such as squats, bench presses, barbell curls, etc and work each muscle three times a week.

if you are looking for a cheap place to buy your supplements go to the vitamin shoppe and not GNC or Hi-Health. A tub of NO Xplode at GNC costs ~50 dollars. At vitamin shoppe it's only 34.

But does vitamin shoppe have 20% off for members and frequent buy one get one half off sales?
