I will be bringing my girlfriend and her son with me. Most likely I will be trying to find somewhere to camp out there Saturday night but have to leave early Sunday morning.

I had the same question but the OP said he'd like to meet up at the 3n16 green valley trail head. I'm unsure if that's still their plan given with the much bigger count of trucks going now.

The original group will be starting at 3N16. I believe there were some guys wanting to start a second group that way we don't have too large of a convoy. Not sure if anyone has taken point on that second group or if its still even happening.

yeah we need to figure that part out lol. I want to be part of the original group but I really think we need to keep it under double digits or we risk pissing off anybody else that's trying to enjoy the trail that day. It's just good trail etiquette to keep your groups small on technical trails.

The other thing I want to be sure to point out is that White Mountain IS a technical 4x4 trail, I've seen a few comments on here from people with stock 4x4s that want to do this as an "easy first trail" but I think those people might be in for a rude awakening. I recommend you have clearance (a lift) and aggressive AT tires at the very least for White Mountain, and even then be prepared to drag your stock skid plate on some things. But that's what it's there for lol.

I really like White Mountain and under normal conditions (which we should have) it's a pretty easy trail in my book, it can be difficult if you want it to be. But my version of 'easy' might be what someone new to the game thinks is too much for them. I encourage anyone that's new with a stock truck to check out some videos online of White Mountain before you commit. I just don't want to see anyone get in over their heads. That's when expensive mistakes tend to happen.

There are some steep, narrow, tight switchbacks and climbs and there are a lot of rocks on White Mountain, some pretty big. I've done this trail a handful of times and seen at least 3 flat tires happen on it (all of which were street rated AT tires).

OK sorry I just had to get that off my chest lol.

But yeah as far as the second group goes, hopefully someone that's done WM before will be willing to lead it. I'll do it if it comes to that. Maybe this week we can get an official list of who's in on the first group and go from there?

I was in on the conversation for a second group but I just wanted to clarify that I’m not making this run.

It would have been great to meet new members and see old ones but my tuck is taking a nap right now and I’m not sure when it’ll be rested up.

I would definitely run separate groups as @eon_blue mentioned simply out of respect for others trying to enjoy the trails.

I think you said what everyone's thinking

We don't want people to go out and get stuck/pissed off because this is marketed as an easy trail run lol. With that said, someone mentioned earlier in the thread that it looks like there are quite a few trails that cut off from white mountain if anyone gets uncomfortable...? @eon_blue you mentioned you have run the trail before, can you confirm that?

BTW: I am also in for the original group :)

yeah there's at least 2 fire road exits in the middle of the trail before you reach the end of it, all in all it's about 9 miles long start to finish and when I've done it solo or with one other person, it usually takes a few hours.

The first exit off the trail isn't until you get to the top and continue on a ways, maybe 3 miles in. To get to the top there are a couple steep climbs and one or two narrow, rocky switchback hills you have to climb up. Those obstacles are mandatory to get to the top, no way around them. Once at the top, there are a variety of other obstacles (mostly big rocks, shelves and steep climbs) most of which have bypasses. If you go all the way to the end of White Mountain there's a pretty good rocky climb that is necessary to make it to the end.

OK so it sounds like White Mtn might be too much for some people who have agreed to go on this run. I know there were a few guys who said they were stock with little to no experience. I think that if a second group does form, maybe that group can be for the less experienced and avoid White Mtn? what @bprout said, we don't want someone in over their head out there and have it be miserable for them.

There are 10 trucks on the original group. I know out of those 10 there are a few who probably won't want to do White Mtn. My truck is lifted with Wildpeaks so I think I should be fine on White Mtn but for those guys that are stock, maybe watch some videos on youtube and make that call on if you can make it.

Please let me know who is in for White Mtn and who is not. 3N16 goes East towards Baldwin Lake so The second group could always stay on that trail and head that way. It's super easy.

I'm in for sure, got a few things I need to fix on my truck first but I should be getting those done this week. My dad is riding with me and we're camping there Sat night, he's looking forward to it since his wife is out of town haha. So I'm for sure in.

I was in 4hi this weekend and my CV axle on the drivers side is clicking something fierce, not a good sign but I'm hoping if I lower my lift a tad it'll go away. I always carry a spare so worse case scenario I'll change it out on the trail lol. Done it before

I'm in for White Mountain as well. I have a friend coming with his Raptor. If that's an issue, or there are too many trucks, we can split the group somehow.

yeah White Mountain is most definitely a 4x4 trail. The service/fire roads all throughout Big Bear are 2wd friendly and very scenic, still a lot of fun to do though

Since we are going to be splitting up the group anyways, maybe the 2WD and closer to stock trucks could form their own group and potentially both groups still meet up and BBQ at some point in the day? Like a mini meet lol? IDK it might be too confusing to organize, I just feel bad leaving people out...

Yea I would hate to leave anyone out that wants to go.

@bprout That is what I was thinking. A mini meet would be cool if we could organize it.

Maybe we should all meet up in the morning to disquinish the separate groups in person. That way we can assess everybody's concern if they are up for white mountain or not. I am not familiar with the big bear trails unfortunately so I would hope to follow somebody's lead on one of the groups hitting white mountain. Is there any other trails easily accessible from where we will be starting for those who aren't going to run white mountain? Maybe we can recommend something doable for those who we might have to leave out from the plan, to make their day a little more than a fireroad through Holcomb?

    Just throwing ideas out there.

Should still come along, if more than 10 show up for White Mountain we'll just split it into 2 groups...one leaves first then the other maybe 30 - 45 min afterward. As long as most people have radios we can make it work

This is pretty much what I've been thinking. I think that this plan would work best, and everyone can convoy with people with similar intentions.
