You have a two piece then. It's not obvious, the main piece is a large black metal piece, with the rubber bushing inside of it.

I'd show you a pic but god damn, I'm having a hard time finding one.

@Darkgoatracer best I can find. This is a modified stock shifter, but you get the idea, and can see the two separate pieces.

If you flip it upside down you can see the bushing in the black part. There's loads of threads on sloppy shifters, because of the internal bushing going to shit. I bet with your spirited shifting, yours is getting tired.

This that and the other thing.
I wonder if it would look nicer if you used one of them foam paint brushes instead?

Those foam brushes are good for thinner, water based paints on dry surfaces, but for a thicker, oil based enamel paints, a better bristle style brush is best. You need to be able to load the brush as much as possible so you can overlap the application area better. Now a foam roller might work but even a 1" will not get into the tight spots. Quality results can be achieved easily but you will have to invest in really really good brushes.

With a compressor available, I'd be more inclined to do like @Darkgoatracer said and get a spray gun. That would be the most effective and good looking results. Once you had the application method down, you could likely do 2, maybe even 3 coats in one day. On smaller pieces the brush might just be easier if you have the time for drying though.

The foam vs. bristle is not a problem of which one is better. The top of the line bristle brushes will blow the foam brushes clear out of the water all day, every day. But Randy will probably not buy the top of the line ones or even the mid-tier ones if I had to guess, in which case a foam brush would be better because it is at least covering up any paint lines left by cheap bristle brushes.

When I switch over to this paint, I will be starting with one of my cheap brushes because I don't want to ruin my good brushes if this shit is hard to clean.

I may as well grab a handful of long grass and paint with that. I buy the cheapest of the cheap brushes from HD that cost like $0.80, and just throw them away with each project.

Well, I am referring to how easy the foam work, not looks. When I did my skids I tried to use foam and it was the absolute worst. It was pulling more paint off than putting on. The coats were also too thin. I believe they would be perfect for crafts or maybe some delicate trim/cut in work but I will never waste my money on them again.

It's enamel paint. Not some nuclear goo. Just soak your brushes in thinner, use at least 3 cans of it. Before the first rinse and definitely before your brushes start to dry, use a paint brush comb to remove as much excess as possible. Then soak in the first can for like 5 minutes. Then remove and blot with paper towels. Then soak in the next can of fresh thinner, and blot after 5 min. Then go to the last can and repeat. Smaller cans like soup are best, unless you have a lot of brushes to clean, but remember to rinse the soup out first. After soaking in the last can there should be no more paint and then you can beat the brush dry with the ball of your hand against the metal of the brush. It should be good as new after it dries completely.

    Or see below vvvvv

    See below. vvvvv

    o_O

Yea, if you don't care what it looks like and want the fastest way of doing it just use an old sock and dip it in the paint and smear it on. The sock doesn't even have to be clean.
