    On Navy and CG ships in port you have a watch stander that sits at the brow and monitors the comings and goings of people onboard the ship. They answer incoming calls to the boat and route accordingly, manage the status board and make pipes (paging system). The OOD is the on duty “Officer Of the Day” and is the Commanding Officers representative, basically the MoFo in charge when the CO is off the ship.

    I was on duty at the quarterdeck when the dude showed up so I took the phone, hit the page button and handed it to him. He said “Herro, Herro...dare nobody dare...whoever order Chinese food, your food is on the pier”. That went through every speaker on the ship and all 15 of us on duty that day heard it...along with every other ship on the pier.
