Jon’s role was to keep the dead dragon occupied while Arya got into position.

 

Just finished watching it for a second time. Still just as epic.

 

Watching it again, and it makes me angry at how bad they are with this strategy. Let’s just throw the entire Dothraki horde out at the beginning. Then after the lit the trench the dragons just sit back and not burn the fuckers, or ya know using arrows it’s not like the archers will miss

Alright much better this time around. But still I thought Theon died kinda lame, he shouldn’t have charged, should’ve done a one on one and then died

 

He should’ve just stood there. Arya would’ve showed up by the time NK slo-mo walked over

 

The lack of strategy and use of dragons is mind boggling for a show that generally has a high degree of attention to detail. Like who wrote that garbage.

All you guys griping about the lack of strategy...the most unrealistic thing (other than dragons, walking dead, etc) was the fact that all the doors in Winterfel closed without a sound. Come on, Who’s ever heard of a castles without creaking doors?

 

The cavalry going in dry kinda annoyed me too, although that shot tracking Jorah with Ghost running beside was pretty epic. And the lighting was really bad, although that was obviously a conscious decision because realism.

Overall, I thought it was a great episode. Don't mind the ending at all, although it did seem to negate years of buildup.

Still though, a girl is Arya fucking Stark, of Winterfell.

 

It was Tyrion's dagger, Valaryan steel. In the crypt, Sansa pulled out the dragon glass dagger Arya gave her.

Battle tactics aside, the only thing thing that annoyed me was what appeared to be the most poignant aspect of the episode... when Bran became the raven(s). It was very obvious that was supposed to be the mystical highlight of the entire episode but I can't figure out what purpose they had. My only guess is they brought the NK to him?

 

I think they did a bad job explaining why the night king was after Brann and why he was the key to victory for the white walkers. They surely didn’t show us anything this episode that demonstrated a threat besides controlling some ravens again.

 

they explained that in Episode 2. Bran is the Three Eyed Raven, meaning Bran is the history of Westeros because he knows all of it. The NK didn't just want to rule Westeros he wanted to wipe it out, and all of it's history too.

The motivation of the Night King: This was clearly explained in the show. The Night King was created by the CotF to kill human, that's what he was trying to do. He wanted an endless night and to erase all memory of human. That's exactly what he was trying to do. I think we were just expecting some crazy twist to happen, but at least it make sense with what was said in the show. I prefer something simple that make sense with the story, that something crazy that will make no sense when rewatching all the seasons.

Arya killing the Night King: "Green eye, brown eye, blue eye. Eyes you will close forever." This was foreshadow in S3. Her whole story was around the God of Death. And Death is literally the Night King in the story. Also, Bran gave her the dagger in S7. So it was pretty clear that Arya was meant to kill the Night King. Again, I think we just expected some crazy shit like Bran going in the past and fucking around some timelines, which 90% of the viewers would have no idea WTF just happened.

The Army of the Dead dealt in Ep3: They filmed for 50+ nights to created the longest and most promising episode of the serie. They put everything on the table for this episode. There's no way the AotD would have survived this episode. Because if they survived, this mean that we need another bigger battle to defeat them. And with all the casualties, there's no logic way to make the living survive. Also, I don't see how Jon and co could have escaped the battle alive and I don't see the Night King retreating either. So, it had to end here. The AotD won at the Fist of the First Man, at Hardhome and Beyond the Wall, but they were defeated in Winterfell, because everyone decided to fight together. I don't feel like this has been rushed. This battle has been build up for 8 Seasons and it ended with the biggest episode ever produced.

Anyway, just my two cents. I think the plot was simpler that some of the hardcore fans wanted, but at least it make sense with the narrative and the final battle was truly epic.
