Great feedback - you can see my conundrum - good points on both sides.

For what it's worth, I'm 45, daughter is grown and out of graduate school, have a great income and life. Vehicle history is: 87 Toyota pickup MT, 87 4runner MT, 73 FJ40 MT, 78 FJ40 MT, 1995 Tacoma MT, 1999 Landcruiser, 2012 GMC Sierra, 2002 Landcruiser and 2013 Acura TSX (thought it would be good for a commute, just can't do a car after having trucks all my life).

1st question... is money a concern? Does that $12K difference make ANY change in your monthly spending and life style?

If not... Which would you enjoy the most? Test drive, try to determine your preference.

If so... (money matters to you everyday), then do the smart thing and buy the lessor cost truck. Used, if was cared for and in great shape, is a good deal as someone else paid for the shine... you’ll get more value on dollars paid.

2006 sr5 MT , 2011sr5 AT, and now a 2017 TRD off road MT. The 2017 is my favorite

    My 2018 is a 4x4 dcsb trd OR 6mt 6 cylinder.
    My 2010 is a 4x4 aclb 5 MT 4 cylinder.

Both rigs are equipped almost the same with aftermarket stuff. The 4 cylinder has 31 inch tires while the 6 cylinder has 32 inch tires.

The 4 cylinder might get 1 mpg better than the 6 cylinder with my commute.

Only time I really cuss the 4 cylinder is pulling hills and passing slow moving rigs.

Of course you are getting more than a 6 speed for that +12K. Your call, but the math says 5+1=6=BETTER

I ended up being indecisive and missed both of the original trucks. Last week, a 2017 4cyl 5spd manual transmission with 20K miles popped up, and I went with it. I'm loving it so far!

I wish. My '17 R156 has had super stiff, clunky and notchy shifting since new. Going into 2nd and 3rd, it feels like the clutch needs to be bled, but the dealer says everything is to spec. Just like what some of the 6spd MT Taco owners have described.

I love my Off-Road Six Speed Manual. People complain about high end torque but it's a truck...I don't care. I went from a WRX and a 96 Tacoma to an '18 Tacoma. No regrets. I find the manual smooth and pleasant to drive. My favorite truck I've ever driven even though my 96 Taco was always my dream car. Tally-Ho

This truck has plenty of high end, most guys complain about the lack at low end of the powerband

I've the 6 speed, same issues. Must've been built Friday afternoon

Congrats on the new truck! I'm sure it will serve you well. In some ways I regret not waiting for a used SR myself

Thanks everyone! Mine seems to hit all the shift points well and is smooth - always liked a 5spd. I split time between south Alabama and north Florida - so the 4cyl isn't an issue with regards to steep inclines.
