CVJ actually is helping me out with my problem since they are less than 2 years old. I just have to figure out what path I'm gonna take haha

 

I’d gusset that too, but if you secured the top of the swingout from moving forward and back, it would make the whole thing a lot more rigid. Do you have a steel tailgate skin? A couple rivnuts in that, 90° bracket up and over the tailgate, then a couple rivnuts on the swingout. Then obviously bolts to hold it all together. Would be a minor annoyance to open the swingout when you have the bike there but not too bad.

 

Yeah, I can see that in my head! The swingout is pretty ridigid thanks to the dual shear hinge, but adding a gusset to the slotted piece where the wingnut holds it all together should do the trick!

If I had the skills/ time / tools I'd build up some steel tubing around the tail lights and use the quick clamps to help secure it all!

Primed and Painted the bedrack

I still have a ton of work to do, but she’s almost ready for summer road trips!

 

Thanks to my gf and her skinny arms I was able to complete and test this little mod tonight

 

Thule Sidearms mount on the Prinsu without any issue!

 

Things to do ASAP

• Move traction boards to Center of Prinsu/ relocate to bed rack
• Move other Thule Sidearm to passenger side on Prinsu
• Remove hitch extension/ Thule T2 Rack
• Mount Bottle opener - drill and tap, or use self tapping stainless screws
• RTT mounted
• Paint Front Bumper
• E brake cover where it's rubbing on Dakars

Things to do this summer:

• Bumper Swap for full hoops (again)
• Wire Brush / paint driveshaft
• Replace CV's with new CVJ axle (sorta a warranty from them)
• Front Diff Seals
• ECGS bushing maybe
• JBA UCA balljoint replacements
• Drop Skids and paint
• Repair weld nut on crossmember
• Exhaust Reroute
• Wirebrush and paint/ POR rusty bits
• install 4X HD Leaf shackles
• Black wrap on hood or plasti dip, (fix the glare problem)
• Install mic on HU - been too lazy and forgetful to plug it in for 2 years
• Fluids - T case, Tranny, rear Diff (I have all the metal crush washers)

Things to do long term:

• CAM Tab gussets
• Poly LCA bushings
• New cam tab bolts (mine are seized after only 2 years from new, not enough anti-seize I suppose)
• Poly Steering Rack bushings
• Steering Rack rebuild (@Arcticelf )
• Serp belt and any pulleys

 

Yeah basically lol. I liked full hoops! this one will eventually be for sale lol

Had a buddy come over to help me put the RTT back on. Only problem is the supplied bolts are a little too long and barely touch the softopper. I gotta make a quick run to the hardware store for some shorter bolts and the rear will be complete!



Oh and I slid the traction boards over to mount my other bike rack

That level says front but it’s clearly mounted to the back of the truck. That’s gonna be a deduction of Overland street cred...

I tried to check expedition portal and OB to see if the level would still work if it wasn’t on the front, and I couldn’t find anything so I was being #adventure when I put it on the rear. #original #mods #expeditionready

With our trucks it never is.

 

Dirtfest 2019 was an awesome time, and we met a lot of cool people! Tacoma's and mountain bikes go together like PB&J. I had several people inquiring about my setup, so I of course talked about Squareone Creations' Bedrack and all of my @Mobtown Offroad armor. I think I helped sell one of their tailgate stiffeners at least!

My friend Kyle and I rode for a total of around 20 miles, and 2000 ft of climbing this past weekend. No injuries, except that my rear disc brake ejected all but two of it's bolts!

First camping trip with the RTT was amazing!

All the planning I did really made for a great first experience! I got the setup and teardown time to less than 30 minutes with myself and my gf.

RTT Wins and Losses

Some things that worked:

• Lubing The zippers - made is much easier to assemble the entire RTT
• Hanging Fan - air circulation for days
• Floor Mat - Helped at the base of the ladder
• Leaving the sleeping bags in the tent - so easy to set up!

Some things that I need to do:

• Bring full size pillows
• Get a fitted sheet for the mattress pad
• Buy a loominoodle or something to light the annex room
• see about padding for the ladder - walking up and down sucked when barefeet

Camping Wins and Losses

Some things that worked:

• Levels helped when setting up much easier on sloped ground
• water jerry with the spigot was clutch all weekend. (thanks again @Chux for the idea)
• foldout table and tailgate was used all weekend, and all meals were cooked on there except for the hobo meals cooked on the fire
• Pack Bins - having a camp bin and a separate (and organized) kitchen bin make setup very very easy

Some things that I need to do:

• Fix the waterport - they already sent new valves
• pack oven mits to empty grease from the griddle
• remember to pre chill the cooler - some of the beers were stuck to the ice that had melted a little
• Check my alignment and balance my tires - steering wobble is annoying, and i'm starting to notice some uneven treadware

Well, Small update:

• The waterport people are awesome! They sent me out new valves the day I discovered the original plastic ones I had were bad! They even through in the pump cap!
• I'm waiting for CVT to open so I can order one of these: Annex Channel This will make setting up the Annex room even easier! the install video is pretty funny too: LINK
• I'm ordering some new rechargable headlamps for 2 reasons. 2 pairs is cheap, no more batteries, and I lost my headlamp last trip.
• I'm also looking at what size sheets I need for our tent mattress so we'll have nice sheets up there!
• Getting the tires re-balanced and the truck re-aligned next week
• I need to check the motor mounts or see if my T case skid is bent and touching the exhaust. I'm noticing more rattles than usual at idle.

• Last, i'm slowly starting to acquire parts to maintain/fix parts on the truck:
  • new JBA balljoints
  • new CVJ axles with updated boots
