If you have a situation like a dead battery when your dealer is closed and battery is still under warranty, you could be reimbursed by Toyota through your dealer. Its called an after hours/emergency repair. Of course you will need a receipt, and having a printout of the battery test will help.

This is it. Batteries were getting so good they decided to ‘value engineer’ them. Now they are junk, especially in hot climates.

I got mine replaced under warranty but next time it’s getting replaced with an Odessey.

Your coworker simply could have mailed his receipt to Toyota Corp and they would issue reimbursement, it is right in the manual.

I swapped mine out with a Northstar AGM 24F within a week of purchase, and tossed the factory battery.

Didn't want to see what our weather would do to the factory battery. :p

My 3rd Toyota. The OEM batteries are always crap. Replace it and be done.

Same thing happened to me last week, 15 months old at 38,000 miles. Annoying to say the least

I replaced mine today at 32k miles and 25 months. It works fine, but apparently has been puking up acid because there was a bunch of corrosion on the battery, the hold down and the metal under the plastic tray.

I replaced it with a Bosch 24f AGM, 4 year free replacement and 96 month prorated warranty. Pep boys had it 20% off online, picked up in store. $160+ tax and core, looked at the Northstar but I don't really need that much juice, the one I got is still a significant improvement over stock and kept $120+ in my pocket.

They do leak if you go off camber or even just on rough bouncy roads.

My battery is crapping out on me.... in the market for new one.

Any battery expert wanna make a recommendation for me?

    my needs:
aside from the standard electrical, I charge my phone 99% of the time + I have 3 small LED lights in grille + LED lights in truck cap (used sparingly). I offroad, but nothing crazy.

I feel like I need to upgrade to the next level up... but no need to get a super duper battery as I have relatively little extra electrical needs, now or in the future...

I'm open to opinions... specific Brands and size recommendations appreciated. Super bonus points if you know of any great deals right now. Thanks!

I'd recommend an AGM battery over lead acid. They work well in hot/cold/vibration/off camber and don't leak. Since you're not wanting a super duty battery, most local auto marts would stock a house brand that would meet your needs. You could likely find a match in the factory size.

You can check the Group Buy part of this Forum as there is usually one going on for Northstar Batteries, you can go 27F if you get a battery tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package

Mine is less than two years old and it needed to be replaced recently as well.

I agree with all of this except I would go with a CTEK over the Noco. There are numerous reports of poor quality control on the Nocos.

    Dropped an AGM in today.
Could't talk myself into the Odyssey after recent expenditures, but this gets the flooded battery out from under the hood, and does it on the cheap.

2018 with 5,465 miles and dead battery. I was actually at the dealership due to low differential fluids when it happened. Tech who replaced the battery scratched the crap out of the front fender and now it's in body shop. Not happy.

BTW my battery in my 2007 4Runner lasted 8 yrs.

Add me to the list. My 2017 Tacoma battery crapped out. Not surprising because it’s a no name 580 CCA battery. Pretty sure the lowest tier battery Walmart is a better option than that but I got a better battery to be safe.

I’m a little shocked with the TRD off road package, and given the price you pay, that’s what Toyota puts under the hood. If I hadn’t seen this forum I’d think the dealer swapped the original out.

Shame on you Toyota and shame on me for not paying attention.
