I see nothing wrong with copying competition except that they did it very poorly.

I'm a big fan of generic products that are of near equal quality. That however is a disaster.

 

I agree with this, too. It does always seem to be more annoying/wrong when it's a smaller company getting copied...but that's what patents are for, and that's why you have to think about your market/customers.

Most folks (like me) will drop 1500 on an RTT, but then spending 100 more to buy security mounting seems absurd lol. If I can grab it for 20 I'm gonna do it. (numbers not accurate just examples)

and that's probably why they weren't made near the same, that's why I added you have to think about your market/customers.

they clearly made a great product, though expensive....so it limits the market. they could've easily chosen a simpler route like said company did and offered a cheaper version and patented that, but they chose to make a nice product. way of the world.

Examples of this for me Store Brands, like you said no one cares until it's a smaller scale company being copied or a company we associate with.

Competition breeds progress, but I hate competition as well when it's a threat to me so I understand. lol

Having multiple companies trying to improve on armor designs for our trucks improves quality across the board and moderates prices.

Key words....”improves quality across the board”

 

Makes me think of the bed stiffener argument that was had when other companies started producing them. If a company is putting more thought into a product and improving the design it’s all good.

yeah that was one that I actually went with one of the first guys to start making them, he doesn't anymore since they're being mass produced, but I had a problem and he solved that problem. THEN the others all jumped into making them. Poor guy could've been making bank on those alone with a patent.

Those are fairly similar, but all of the others are pretty different.

It's why companies make tiers of products, one to appeal to every customer at different price points rather it's better quality or not the price should reflect quality.

Very untrue. They definitely help. If you have weight over your bed, I would get them.
