Indiana and Ohio were big contributors to the building of this nation. Steel mills and such in the northern part of the states had easy access to ports. Also, you have I70 that runs East and West intersected by I65 and I75 that ran North and South.

Major universities (Purdue with engineering and OSU with a prestigious Veterinarian program along with IU, Notre Dame and UC)

Agriculture is firmly rooted (haha. get it?) with very fertile soil and optimal moisture.

Manufacturing simply left the area due to labor relations, changing economies and regulatory climates changing. Toss in Nafta and this area had NO chance.

Now, I'm simply convinced that any CEO would hate to relocate here simply due to the fact that the actual climate is much better in the south. Pair that with the legislative and governmental climates with all the tax breaks and absence of poor labor relations, there is no reason to move a company here.

Indiana's tech scene is exploding right now. Angie's List, Salesforce etc etc. They were in the running for Amazon HQ2 damn near to the bitter end.

Indianapolis is really doing well, in that regard.

Problem is, the rest of the state is on the struggle bus.

Best thing I heard in Warren was that the residents there were actually fighting Homegoods/Marshalls from putting a distribution center there. Like yeah, okay, here's a depressed part of the nation that's pushing jobs away...good plan. Fortunately the deal went through still and just in time for GM to close the Lordestown plant...

I'm on my third factory job. The other two moved to Mexico. Luckily, I saw the writing on the wall and left both of them one year before they shut down. If this one closes, I'm not looking for another. I just haven't told my wife yet.
