    Hi Forum.

I'm a new member, I signed the contract for a 2010 Access Cab TRD Off Road Tacoma today which I'm gonna get this Friday.

It's my first pick-up, for the last 3.5 years I've been driving a FJ Cruiser that modded for off road but my needs have changed and I feel a pick-up will be better suited now.

Here's a picture of the FJ from my last overlanding trip. My Tacoma is black, it looks like I'm gonna have to repaint the trailer :)

I made quite a few mods on the FJ when I got it 3.5 years ago to go off road, I lifted it, changed the wheels and the bumper, added rock sliders, a winch, dual battery and onboard air.

I don't really go off road anymore, I prefer overlanding/adventures/expeditions or whatever one likes to call them. I have to carry a lot of stuff when I got on those trips and the FJ was getting small. The Tacoma with a 6' bed and the trailer will give me more than enough.

I'll post pictures of the Taco when I get it. It's a TRD Off Road with step bars, deflectors, bed extender and a few other things I forgot. It's the last 2010 that the dealer had in the showroom and they want to get rid of it, I'm getting all the extra accessories for free, something like 1500$.

I don't plan on modifying it as much as I did the FJ but I want to buy a tonneau cover before fall, I don't know what my options are yet, I'm pretty sure I can find infos here.

That's pretty much it. I love my FJ but I'm also very happy with my more and I can't wait to get my Taco.

Got it this morning, it's still all new and shiny but I'll probably fix that this week-end.

that's a nice lookin truck! do you know if it came equiped w/tsb 0305-08 rear leaf spring mod? I took mine in today for that and was told it came factory equiped with it and did not apply to my 2010 AC TRD/OR 4x4. and they chopped my gas peddel off and loaded the new throttle/brake software updates. anyway, welcome to TW....

    Hi Tojo,

I'm not sure what you're referring to about chopping the gas pedal and firmware update, is it a recall ? To my knowledge there's been two recalls on the 2010 Tacoma, one for the famous carpets that are supposed to kill us all :D and one about the drive shaft.

I had to take it to the service department almost straight from the showroom because the radio controls on the steering don't work and I had them check for the recalls at the same time, they told me they were done already.

For the leafs mod, I really don't know anything about this. I know I sound a bit stupid or uninformed but the thing is that 3 days ago I had no idea I was gonna change my FJ so I really don't know anything about my new Tacoma yet.

Is there a way I can check for that, would I find part numbers somewhere on the leafs ?

I was on fjcruiserforums but I left the place a few months ago. I was at the first FJ Cruiser Northeast Run at Rausch Creek in 2008 and at the FJ Cruiser Lobster Run at Rocky Mountain Off Road park in fall 2009.

I created the web sites for both events and also the FJ Northeasters forum before giving it to someone else. Somehow I always managed to get on 3 wheels only when I was at these events and the Toyota webmasters liked that so my FJ was on the Treail Teams web site twice.

So it's very possible that you've seen this truck somewhere before :) And no, I didn't keep it, I traded it in to get the Tacoma. I don't do any hard off road anymore, I prefer overlanding which I why I changed, a pickup has more storage space than the FJ.

    Edit:

Since it was the last 2010 in the showroom I think they really wanted it out of there so I got a really good deal. My FJ was on lease and I still had 5 months on it, they took it back, they're making the last 3 payments and they "buy back my buy back".

They had already given me a price on a 2010 TRD, I asked if they'd give me that one for the same price and they said yes as long as I make the move this week. I haven't got the exact list but there's 1500$ worth of accessories.

Considering I've been wanting to get a Tacoma for months and thought I couldn't do it without losing big on the FJ this looks like a dream deal.

there's a ton of info in TW you might want to search on and give your dealer a quick call. I was told today where I bought mine it had to do with VIN# maybe date of purchase too?? I picked mine up back in April, so maybe your's already has this work done.

Hi Eric, nice truck and nice FJ too! Welcome to TW, enjoy yourself here :). As far as the rear springs are concerned, you should already have a four leaf pack as per the Canadian specifications.....The TSB refers to the fact that the US trucks come stock with 3 and can be upgraded if so desired.

    Hi all !

It's been a while since I posted but I've been busy with lots of things including designing a rack to install my roof-top-tent on my Taco without sacrificing my Access Tonneau cover.

I decided to post some sketchup drawings here, maybe they'll give ideas and/or solutions to others.

    Rail as it is originally.

Now with Access Tonneau cover rail installed.

This is the base of the rack that will sit on the sides of the bed.

    Rack base sitting on bed
    [IMG]

Access Tonneau cover rail and Toyota rail reinstalled (horizontal displacement is about 1/8")

That's the part of the rack that will hold the RTT and the Awning
    [IMG]

To keep the awning as low as possible when driving, I'll mount it on telescopid poles.

Zoom on one of the brackets that will hold the awning
