When considering innovation and technology, there are many inventions that have been mind blowing. Amazing innovations.

One I typically lean on is the Palm Pilot PDA.

If not for the Palm Pilot, we'd still be using flip phones. No shit.

Know who actually created the first PDA? Steve Jobs.

Apple created the first PDA and had TONS of market support. People didnt know how to best utilize the power of the PDA. It flopped. Steve Jobs dropped it. The market wasnt ready for it.

In the case of the wheel, the Romans figured out how to use it for a great many things. Had the Romans not figured it out....we very well may not have the internet right now. Or cars for that matter.

I wonder where we would be as a society today if the library of Alexandria hadn't been burned to the ground...

Boats do go far, but back in the day, if you could afford a boat (or a ticket for that matter) you typically didnt want to go far. You had someone else do it for you.

The bicycle was cheap and a great many people could own their own PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION that didnt cost much.

All of the options on the poll are huge contributions but I think the internet has changed our world more profoundly than any of the others.

Leaps and bounds ahead of where we are now, from a cultural perspective.

I think academically, we are well beyond that, as Google is basically the same thing as the library of Alexandria. (Google is a better design, with fire suppression and back up servers...lol.)

Not necessarily in a positive manner. ( I think the initial idea of the poll came from a place of positive change)

It is definitely used in evil and negative ways but the positive utility outweighs the negative IMO...

I agree. But the negative side effects are still there. Much more-so than with other innovations.

I would also wager that we would have a much better understanding of our past as a society had it not been burned... think of all the maps, and historical accounts that must have been in the libraries inventory...

Hell, it may have had evidence of the city of Atlantis being a real place for all we know...

Possibly even evidence of an ice age civilization that fell during the time of the great flood around the time 11600 to 12400 BC.

Yes, culturally we would have a much better understanding of the history of the human race.
