Sand/Polish exhaust pipe right before the tip?

As you will see in the picture, my exhaust pipe is all rusted looking just before the tip starts. I want the area shown by the arrow to look like clean metal. If I sand it down, will it begin to show the metal? I thought I had seen on here once where a guy had done something to his stock tailpipe to make it look much cleaner. Any ideas or am I on the right track? thanks.

 

Wire brush it, tape off the tip, and spray paint the pipe with high temp black?

 

I could never get mine shiny enough to my liking, so... Im having it thermal coated. Should be done by the end of the week, then itll be rewelded.

 

Yeah that was my other option. Idk, maybe I should just leave it as it is.

I just got that welded in yesterday and I dont wanna have to have em redo it just for that. I wish someone would remember the post I'm talkin about. The guy did something and it turned out great, I just can't remember the wording so I can search for it.
