I can't recall, been a while. They weren't native to the area but were introduced. Was only the second year huntin' 'em was allowed. Guess they tried a few different varieties with disappointing results til these finally took.

 

Maybe it was an old or unhealthy bird

 

What they eat in the wild also matters. I've had quail from southern Arizona and quail from the store - same species, Gambel's - and they tasted very differently. I would think that a wild turkey isn't getting the same thing that old Bob the Butterball is feeding on.

Same holds true for fish. Farm trout taste a lot different than wild trout.

 

Old tom's can be tough. I save them for chicken fried but run the pieces through a tenderizer. Young jakes are good to cook whole breasts. But crucial to use thermometer.

 

I refuse to eat any farm raised seafood not really a seafood guy . I’ve heard over seas the fish farms hang the chicken cages over the tanks and the fish feed on chicken shit

 

Guess they save money that way not buying fish food

Hey, I finally broke down and bought a security camera system today. Arlo Pro 2 from Costco on sale. Did a real quick mock up to see what my coverage envelope would be with the included 5 cams.

Yellow lines are the 130 degree coverage limit, the red radius is the 23' motion detection zone and the magenta are just coverage overlaps for visual recon. Pool is to the north (top), front door is west (left) rear door is east (right) and garage is south (bottom).

There's a wrap around deck on the back and pool side so two cams will go there. Might buy 2 or 3 more cams to have even more motion detection coverage. Our new neighbors on the hill have two young boys and the older one (about 12) has me worried with that pool. His younger brother is sure to follow him so...........

 

Aaaannnnd an even better reason not to eat farmed raised fish!!!!

Here in Ny your pool needs to be fenced in . I’ve been thinking about cameras myself . Or you can hire someone to sit on your roof with a rifle

Same in Texas, I build custom fences and self locking gates for Pullium pools. keep the toddlers out.

 

We stole the liner out of an above ground pool in the winter when we were teenagers . Granted the pool was in rough shape . Made a stone dam on a stream were we used to hang out . You could drive a VW over it . Dept of Environmental Conservation was not happy with us . They had to bring in a dozer
