What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

First gen is like 15mins of you've done it before. It's seriously easy

 

I’ve taken two Tacoma dashes out before, they’re more cumbersome than difficult to remove.

What brand of trim is that, and is that bolt where the grab handle used to be?

 

I believe it’s URD. And yes that’s wher the handle was. That actually reminds me, I need to get a flush fitting bolt.

 

I ask because I want to keep my RAM mount, and it bolts to where the grab handle is.

 

I do like the look of having both gauges on the a-pillar, but I couldn't give up the grab handle

 

You can get a special permit from the DMV to drive it between emissions tests, they give them to people that can't register because they can't pass smog. You get a temporary/limited number of days to drive it.

 

That’s what I’m doing right now. With mine, it’s not that it fails.. It just doesn’t pass. Not all of the monitors show as “ready”. I’m using my scangauge and I’m gonna try and see if I can’t get a reading from that.

 

Well.. I think it’s ready. At least I really hope it’s ready

 

Finally got around to starting the overland build I've been planning on this nice 63K mile 2003 I found a few years ago. I think I procrastinated because I keep having second thoughts about modifying such a low mileage original truck. On the other hand, not sure it makes sense to put so many $$$ in one not as nice.

So far, installed a Toytec Boss Performance Suspension system, Goodyear Wranglers, an ARB front winch bumper and a ComeUp winch and powder-coated the wheels. Can't believe how well it drives and rides with the new suspension. Next up is an ARE topper & Rhino rack, a Roofnest Sandpiper tent, Rod Vault, awning and an ARB refrigerator on a sliding floor. I'm thinking about an RCI skid plate and maybe some sliders or some kind of rails, but I like how it looks without...

 

Is there a write up somewhere on how this is done?

 

Remove the adjustment bolt all the way. Tensioner comes off. Use a socket and a vice to press out the old bearing. Use the same socket and vice to press in the new bearing and re install.

 

When's the supercharger going on.

 

With 3 new coil packs, ignition module from a junk yard, new wires, fuel pump, fuel filter cleaned and rebuilt injectors and compression test. I still have a #4 misfire. #4 spark plug has excess carbon on it. Not sure if that was caused from the bad coil pack. Compression was done with a cold motor. The #4 cylinder held pressure for 5mins without dropping.

If compression is good throw a turbo on it. Even if it's not turbo it anyways and see how far it goes!



I put an EGT guage where the clock is. I don't like the look of the a pillar mounts. If you goes this route make sure the guage can be read at an angle. I have to lean to read it.

Well.. I’m still not making as much boost as I should be. This is annoying.

 

How much should you be making? You at or near sea level?

 

Now would be a good time to get a noid light set and see if the injection pulse is good on #4 or if you have an oscilloscope you can watch the peak and hold current ramp to tell if it's opening

 

You have headers? Or maybe a huge boost leak (injector seals love to piss away boost)
