Most rims these days are "tubeless ready" aka you add the stems and sealant and call it a day as the rim is already taped. It's usually listed as a selling point for the bike.

Same wheels... That's what I though, but was not sure. I only did conversion ones and the tape had to be replaced anyway.. Thanks

I've been considering switching to a softopper and pad for the summer, and this would be a great way to do that.

Looking to get into some downhill mountain biking at some parks and just other trail riding. Any recommendations on a setup I might consider going with? Also any other input for newbies would be greatly appreciated,. Thanks.

Have you been to a downhill park and rented a bike? You can also demo trail bikes from your LBS or, in some cases, from the manufacturers.

I took my trail bike, a Giant Trance, to the downhill park and, honestly, while that bike is pretty good for trails it was totally outmatched by Northstar. It was completely beat up by the end. Everything squeaked and performed worse than when I started. It also really didn't have quite enough travel so it beat me up too. Downhill bikes are beefy with huge travel but are difficult to pedal up hill if you're trying to do trails. The one bike I know of people say can do both is the Santa Cruz Nomad but I don't have any first hand experience with it other than drooling over it in bike shops. It's also pricey if you're just starting out.

100% the best reason I have ever heard to buy anything

Just hit up a DH park and rent a full on dual crown DH bike. You will basically fall in love with it. I only get to ride lift assist DH like once every one or two years, and it is the most fun I have ever had... and I used to race motocross as a kid. Used dh bikes on pinkbike and direct to consumer brands like YT and Commencal are your best bet for new ones that dont break the bank. Aaron Gwin won a lot on the YT Tues....

haha so worth it though. I have to travel suuuper far to get to windrock which is the closest DH to me. We normally go to Colorado for vacation/wedding anniversary since we got married on the continental divide. Normally hit up Keystone want to try Trestle next Might be better for my wife since she just kinda slow rides all the trails anyways ha

I have Deer Valley and to a lesser extent Sundance within an hour of me. Then there is Green River/Moab area in about 4.

Really wanna hit up Angel Fire and the Colorado parks this year though.
