So I’ve been reading on these forums for the past few years since I’ve owned my 2010, 2014, and now 2018 Tacoma. I’ve usually always found the answers I was looking for by just searching in google and reading up on this site. Now that I really want to get serious on building my truck I decided it was time I actually made an account.

My truck currently sits on a 6” BDS lift with Icon coilovers up front, the rear shocks provided in the kit and the 4” block. All the rest of the suspension components are stock. After all the money I spent on the truck and this lift, I HATE it. After owning Tacomas for the past 8 years this has been the worst mistake I have made. The truck is just not practical for what I do and my lifestyle.

My plans now are to bring the truck back down to about 3”. The shop that did the install of the lift kit is going to do the fabrication of re-welding the crossmember, replacing the factory spindles, and removing the rear block. The rest of the build I’m going to do myself.

    Mods planned
    - Icon 2.0 rear shocks
    - Icon multi add-a-leaf expansion pack
    - Total Chaos UCA’s
    - BAMF recessed grill (depending if I can somehow relocate the TSS sensor)
    - CBI T3 front bumper with low center grill protection (also depending if the TSS sensor will work with the grill protection, I read it worked for some people.)
    - SCS 17x9 -38 offset wheels
    - Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70 or 295/70 if I can fit them

Any tips or suggestions are welcome. Looking forward to being more involved in this forum!

Just curious...what did you want it to do for your lifestyle that it doesn’t do? Looks great though

Don’t get me wrong, the truck looks bad ass. I get compliments on it all the time. But like I said it’s just not practical for me as of now. I just had a baby and getting the little guy in and out of the truck is a pain. I also cannot pull the truck into my garage because of the height. If it was just an inch lower I could make it in lol. Also getting things in and out of the bed is another pain. I have to climb on the wheel to take things out. Probably won’t be that much of a difference when I bring it down to a 3” but anything helps to make my life easier.

I’m going to use the Icon coilovers I have on the truck now. The shop has the parts to convert it back to be used without the 6” lift kit. I’m also going to have them rebuilt with new seals and lube.

The upside is if the techs don't destroy your prior kit, I think HI has a pretty decent demand for stuff like that right? At least based on a lot of the trucks I have seen posted that they see around the island.

The 295s might be tight so I was looking for any existing chop to help make an opinion on that. The rest is very sensible sounding.

Why do you “hate” it as is? Performance?

Damn, thats a big tire lol. What did you have to do other than a cmc to get that thing to fit in there with a 3”?

I’m willing to do a cmc to fit the 295’s. I’m thinking the CBI front bumper might help as well. What do you think? I guess you could say “hate” was a strong choice of words lol, I’m just over it. Mainly because of the height and the problems I’m having with it regarding my lifestyle and it feels like I’m driving a cruise ship lol.

Oh for sure, I almost guarantee that I will sell the kit granted that the techs don’t destroy anything. Also the wheels and tires will sell easily too so I have a little peace of mind that I’m going to make back some of my money.

You have the right approach. Put in good stuff and chop as needed.

I went a bit more conservative on my lift but ended up with exceptional performance. Icons worked out well for me. Write up in my build thread links below if you are curious. (Turn phone sideways to see signature. )

I’ll probably end up doing this if need be to fit the 295’s in there. We’ll see how things go with the cmc and the CBI front bumper. Or if I just end up going with 285’s.
