    I don't agree it's accurate. But it's common with delaers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like others have said, it definitely doesn’t look like the drain or pan bolts have been touched.
In the past, i’ve had transmission fluid changed by a machine that hooked up between a trans cooler line and the cooler. It basically just intercepted the old oil going to the cooler and replaced the exact same amount with new fluid going out into the cooler. It’s nice because pretty much all of the oil gets changed where-as when you drop the pan to change the oil, there’s always a few quarts left in the system (mostly in the torque converter) The only down side is that the filter doesn’t get changed unless you drop the pan afterwards and waste some new fluid.

You might want to call your garage and see how they do it. Their “Service Kit” might not be a filter and could be a few seals or O rings for the trans lines.

Interesting. I never heard that. Any literature or link to reinforce that? I have been deep in the transmission threads since I got the truck over a year ago.

Was just wondering. When the car is on a lift it's super easy to check the fluid level on a car with the check plug on the pan and a scan tool to monitor tft.

I've experienced on my 2nd gen the tech's just going from the hoses on the trans cooler. They don't even check level. Just make sure they put back what comes out.

There is no way that transmission was properly serviced. Even if they pulled the cooler lines to perform the flush, it would be grossly negligent on the Techs part to not confirm fluid level after the flush by pulling the overflow plug. Although, I would say it's rather likely no service at all was performed.

A transmission 'fluid exchange' uses the flexible cooler lines for access. The pan is not touched. There is no draining of fluid and no filter change. So, that pan looks correct but look at your cooler lines where they connect to the radiator/cooler.

Whether or not they put the right amount back in is another subject and not so easily answered.

Looking at the work order, they very well could of done it through the cooler lines. I would find out what the 6601 part is though.

Check the overflow drain bolt (6mm iirc) when cold. Only a tiny bit of fluid should come out. If they “flushed” with a machine the fluid should be pretty red. Anything purple and more than likely they didn’t flush it. Possibility they drained and refilled the trans but those bolts look to not have been touched. If the repair order shows how many quarts were used you can base if it was a drain and fill or flush. D/f is about 4qts of atfws and flush is like 8+?? As a Toyota tech it really looks like a service wasn’t done, at least not properly since the overflow doesn’t look to have been touched as others have noted.

I work at Ford and we use the transmission cooler lines to do the flush. Vehicle goes on the lift and when the thermostat opens the machine pumps in the 12 quarts through the new hose as trans pressure pumps out the old 12 quarts. After the 12 quarts is exchanged we check double check the level and add as needed. I assume toyota would be similar, its easier then dealing with dropping the pan and having gaskets in stock and makes sure that all 12 quarts is entirely removed.

Wouldn’t be the first time a dealer did this. I was using the dealers free oil changes and routine maintenance when I first got my truck. After they ran out I started doing the oil changes myself. I changed my oil a bit earlier than needed and still found incredibly dirty oil. The filter was also cheap as hell and not Toyota OEM like I was charged. Now I just don’t trust the 19.99 oil change they offer.

Toyota says the tranny doesn't need service until 100,000 miles. That I'd what the dealer and independent shop told me. Synthetic tranny fluid from factory. Just what I was told.

I can see an argument for anyone who has had the transmission temperature warning come up to want to renew their fluid. A few guys have had that happen here wheeling in the desert on steep grades in 4Hi (IIRC).
