Bad connection. Use the volt meter to check if possible.

Thanks. I'll check it with the voltmeter and see. I appreciate your help.

I would say you did not set your pins in far enough to the handle

Sean may be on to something here, those pins on your wiring harness you are assembling need to be pushed pretty far into the new connector housing. If you think that is it, use a mini flat head screwdriver to help.

FYI to those thinking this could work in the tailgate. Not without a LOT of hacking. I bought a handle to to this mod but also wanted to take it apart and see if it'd be feasible to incorporate the internals in or around the tailgate handle.

The green wire is the touch sensor, that could probably be switched out for a different touch sensor. The lock touch sensors are the metal flanges near the board. Those could also "maybe" be switched out for a different touch sensor.

    20190501_192251.jpg

But the board is absolutely BURIED. "Potted" for water resistance. Would be some effort to get it out.

    20190501_192046.jpg

So I guess the point is it "could" be done but with a ton of effort/hacking. And to destroy a $150 handle just to get to the pieces idk. If someone wants to try then great!

I actually slid the pins directly onto the terminals of the handle, still nothing. I'll try to troubleshoot again.
    Thank you.

 Must be a bad connection or even a bad handle, you could try swapping handles with the drivers if you can’t find a bad connection.
Double check that you are tapped into the correct wire locations on the ecu- sometimes colors can change by year, so wire color on my 2016 could (but probably isn’t) different from your 2019, but the wire location should still be the same.

Lexus SUV’s has a button on the tailgate with a proximity sensor of some sort. Would that be able to connect up to the tailgate to just unlock and lock the tailgate? Of course it would be Lexus parts so it may be a bit pricey.

I can take a picture of the switch on my wifes NX. Its just a soft touch button covered with rubber on the rear tailgate. I just dont know where the proximity sensor is located. It is probably in the tailgate somewhere. When i have some time, i will see if i can find a parts list or something for her car.

There is one that locks/unlocks the doors and one that opens/closes the tailgate.

Thanks. The ecu wires are exactly as you described. Hopefully it's not a bad handle. I'm going to remove the passenger side handle and connect it to the ecu outside of the door to see if I can get it to work. If not, I'll swap or for another handle.

Question is will the antenna be compatible with the toyota key. (Looking for the same signal as the other antennas). Its rolling code so it needs to be specifically compatible id guess.

Good question. But if the Lexus Slim card works on the Tacoma, shouldnt it be compatible?

    Suggestion:

Why not try to use the new Rav4 rear Foot-Activated Power Liftgate sensor? the one that use your legs to open it? That might be easier to apply on the Tacoma tailgate than retrofit the handle bar.
