    Oh, BTW got to see my first ever black bear in the wild this AM. Jumped out on the trail 30 yds in front of me, checked me out and carried on. Only 10 seconds, but the rest of lifetime memory...

    Glad I found this thread. I actually just picked up a Flipac the other day it's not in the best condition I've ever seen but for the price, I figured a side project wouldn't kill me.

    This is right after the purchase at the buddies house. It needs a thorough cleaning and some other repairs like the torsion bar. Have any of you replaced one? It came with the Sway-a-way replacement but the guy never installed it which is understandable as it seems like a PITA.

    It’s a project, but a fun project. I’m lovin’ mine, have fun with it. I’ve never seen ground stabilizers before... interesting.

    Ya I’m pretty excited to start working on it. Anyway that bar is actually used to open it since the torsion bar is donzo haha. It’s similar to this video

    Anyway it’s also kind of a stabilizer as the little bars that go from the flip bed to the hood are gone but I’m not sure not much those do much to stabilize anyway?

    You’d think that their benefit would be minimal but they help ensure that you don’t drop the end of the lid down too far over-stretching the tent material and damaging it. Plus, they help make for a stable sleeping platform and in high winds keep the lid from flipping up and dumping you into the bed.

    That's understandable I suppose I should see if I can source some of those poles, any idea where to find some? For the time being, sounds like it would be beneficial to use that pole and some sort of strap to the tow hook on the front? Anyway, thanks!

    The poles and their mounts were simple Bimini hardware from a boating catalog with little metal broom or rake holders that normally get screwed into the wall. Plastic hinges on top of the closed lid that became dry and brittle due to UV exposure. I, well my wife, broke one off which sent me on a search for something better.

    I found an all metal marine grade quick disconnect to replace the hardware on the lid which brings the poles themselves inside until you need to deploy them. You’ll still need the lower attachment point to fix the bottom securely once deployed and the original tabs really are ideal. If you don’t have those I’m sure a photo can be shared so you can make your own.

    It never failed, I’d be running late, almost done at the pump and someone would start in on me. Wife in the front seat rolling her eyes and fuming because I’m trying to give them the fastest brief I can so I can grab my receipt and roll.

    Thanks for the info, I have the OG tabs that mount on the hood but I am missing the tabs that are on the actual shell. After looking at some of the pictures in the thread it looks fairly simple to source a replacement like your post a while back (#57).

    Do you happen to have a picture of the poles that you sourced? Thanks!

    Thanks for the info I still need to follow up on those poles but for the time being the ones I have now see to work well.

    Anyway, being that I just purchased the Flippac my GF, the pups, and I took a trip up to Carson NF in New Mexico and it was fantastic. It was really nice having a separate spot for the pups and not being crammed into a tent.

    On the list of things I'd like to replace are the windows for windoors. @G.T. I stumbled across your FS thread from a while back in my search for windoors and noticed that you added those after your initial purchase, what brand or where did you find them?[​IMG]
