Richmond, Va- need help installing lift PLSSS

So after researching almost all the forums and making a few hundred phone calls to people about lift kits, I decided on fox 2.5 coilovers for the front w/ tc uca's, as for the rear the all pro 3' leaf pack w/ the rear fox's which i should be getting by this friday. I've got the extended u bolts, brake lines, and plenty of beer, pizza, my g/f in a bikini w/ some friends and a whole lot of fun working on an awesome truck. I'll be taking pics of everything we do as I've done with the rest of my truck mods so we can show off the work. I have plenty of tools back in galax, va(farm in swva) but I really dont want to drive 5 hours back there to do it alone, so right now I'm in Richmond, va and can drive where ever to get some help really. I just spent a ton of money on my new truck and I'd rather do it myself where even though inexperienced would rather save 500 bucks on labor and see everything done first hand. I have read a lot on installing them and it doesn't seem very hard to do since I'm pretty much replacing everything and not fooling with the factory stuff. If tools are needed I'm sure it would be less costly then the quotes I've been getting. Any and all help would be appreciated soonish since I'm more excited then prolly ever b4. Thanks guys and gals. im working on getting my garage ready for a complete lift but its not quite there yet its in Prince George but i would enjoy helping out if u could find a garage... ill put this in the tidewater area thread and see what all is available... they had a wrench meet this past saturday and installed a full lift

It depends on your time frame.

I would love to host again, but I am booked up until the second weekend in sept ( My lift goes on the first weekend in sept )

I missed the last mod day too and just ordered a toytec ultimate lift on friday. SmanZ has offered to install mine for me (I'll be in the learning phase ) but if there's enough interest maybe another mod day could go down soon...

 

cgrove04, let me know if you have a place to do the install. I'm down to help - I had a blast at the last mod day and would definitely be up for doing it again. I'm working on another member's truck in Stafford probably the weekend after this one. I can set something up w/ you in late August if a mod day doesn't pop up before then.

Everything for your truck is bolt-on so we just need a parking spot where people won't bug us. I've got all the tools, jacks, stands, etc.

 

Yeah, I've got some TCA's that need to go on...

Plus, I'm always down for pizza, and girls in bikini's. Don't tell my fiance (crap, she might be my wife by then). Have her bring more friends

 

ill be home tomorrow and will see what it takes to get the garage lift ready, i have 90% of the hand tools needed, a small air compressor but no air tools... itll prolly be that first sat in Sept that ill be ready

Wow thanks for all the responses yall, The thing is I'm in pharmacy school at the moment, and start back with my 4th year rotations in a week and a half from now which after that all my time is devoted to the pharmacy for 9 hours a day and on the weekends we have projects or meetings to go to. I really wanted to get it done before then but if I can't then I'll have to get my schedule from my next boss in 2 weeks. If there is a mod day setup then I'll do my best to be able to get that time free though. Thanks again for the quick responses, I may have to give the papermoon girls a call

 

Bah, if pharmacy school is anything like medical school, 4th year is a breeze. 9 hour days are nothing. You'll have time

 

like smanz said we are tentatively planning on fixing my AALs either in stafford or centreville the weekend of 21 aug, i guess mostly depending on if anyone else has anything to install. if we do it in stafford i have access to a car port where we can jack up 2 trucks at once. if there are some more people who could make the trip up to lend a hand i'll bet we could knock out both trucks in no time.

i'm also going today to scout out a couple of areas where there is supposedly some good trails to offroad near my house, so once we're done we can go test out your new lift

 

Sweet sounds like a plan! My purchase should be here this week (not sure if the brake lines will be here by the 21st but I can get that done another time) so I'd have some goodies to install.

I may have a problem I'm working on right now, I'm not sure if the rear fox shocks i bought from off road warehouse will work with my 3' all pro rear leafs, calling to see in a min they may be too short. edited: ya the ones i bought will be too short for the rear leaf, so I'm either gonna have to get a smaller leaf, use the fj ones, or the all pro ones

 

So I was soo excited to get this thing done that I went to autozone and walmart got all the tools I needed...hopefully. All i can say is they have good return policies

 

Keep them. If you can install a lift you can do the majority of the periodic maintenance required for your truck. They'll pay for themselves the first or second time you work on your own truck instead of having a dealer do it.

 

Ya I'm thinking about it and your def right, I'm a little worried about installing the uca sounds like i have to bend some sheet metal etc. to get the bolt out for it. Not gonna be fun

 

Get some channelocks - they'll make it easier. A lot of it is going to depend on how lucky you are. My '09 was pretty easy - a little fender bending w/ the channelocks and I was done. My '10 took an afternoon of beating and a prybar to get the bolt out. The conflict between the UCA bolt and the fender varies slightly from truck to truck it seems.

If you want to do it the really easy way, you can order two new UCA bolts from the dealer and cut the head off the stock ones to remove them. Then, install the new bolts from the rear of the UCA if you can. IIRC the bolt on the passenger side has to go back in from the front because of the fuel lines by the frame rail.
