I should have posted a link to the main NST site, but running out to the truck with the old parts confirms my two installed NST pulleys are the same size as the old parts.

EDIT: link changed to the 1GR-FE OEM size page in my previous post

Heads up guys. I called CSF yesterday and they confirmed that they are shipping a direct drop in Tacoma specific hipo radiator late May early June. FYI for those of you like me who want to avoid cutting swapping or bending.

Really?! Cool news. I was fully willing to swap the FJ shroud etc on but I'd happily take a taco specific radiator instead.

Honestly I’d rather have the FJ version now that I’ve done the install. The bending is extremely minor and the shroud is dirt cheap. The result is a cooler not only deeper but larger in frontal surface area than stock. It wouldn’t make sense to me to pay the same cost, minus the $100 or so for a shroud and coolant take, for a smaller radiator that isn’t significantly easier to install and will very likely not perform as well.

While the extra inch or 2 in overall radiator height does made a difference in terms of frontal surface area and coolant capacity, the real difference in the system is being a much thicker 2 core. "Losing" that extra inch or 2 won't amount to very much in terms of cooling capabilities.

I’d be curious to test that. The bottom 2” is completely clear of the AC, transmission, and supercharger radiator so it breaths the coolest air. Also on a truck with a plate bumper and winch the bottom 6” of the radiator gets the cleanest air flow in terms of where the holes line up with exposed radiator. To me, that clean fresh flow is worth it I think but I’m not going to claim to have any data to back that up.

either way is a lot better than plastic rad that was probably carpet and 2 liter bottles before it was repurposed for one of most important components for an internal combustion besides the actual combustion part.

and too each his own. I’m not saying installing a Tacoma specific version is wrong. I’m saying as someone who was really hesitant to buy the FJ version, after doing the install, I wouldn’t wait for the Tacoma version. There is zero difficult effort required to install the FJ version with the FJ shroud and tank. It was one of the easiest mods I’ve installed and the bending is nothing. Plus IMHO I can see advantages after install of having the bigger version in terms of surface area and capacity available.

Keep in mind the radiator was probably pop cans in its previous life :p. That being said I totally agree, plastic tanks left exposed to light with a plate bumper on probably don’t always hold up for the lifespan of a Tacoma.

no doubt. we won't even get into the microwave, toasters and rusted scrap that frame is made out of. Japanese trucks made from Chinesium metals.

It will be interesting to see the difference. My bigger concern is down the road with other mods interfering with the FJ rad given it’s size. Regardless I would think that even if the FJ cools a measurable amount better than the Tacoma specific version, both are likely so much better than stock that as a practical matter it will make no difference.

When you're boosted though every little bit of cooling head room can help! Last year the stock setup began to fail me miserably. Hence why I pulled the trigger on a CSF 7076 and a URD thermostat mod this spring before temperatures come up. I think if your Tacoma is stock your comment is true but if you’ve begun significantly changing your stock powertrain there maybe value to 2 more inches, dirty comment intended lol.

Yeah... you supercharged guys may need it. Unless it’s a diesel I like my trucks NA. For trucks without I don’t see their being much of a difference.

About time! They told me last year they were going to be released starting at the beginning of the year. Besides it only makes sense, they probably sell 20 - 25 Tacoma's to every 1 4runner

Anyone notice the radiator cap is higher pressure than stock? Stock one won’t fit on the CSF radiator.

That looks like the larger size Japanese cap. You can run to the parts store and get ones off another vehicle that are like 16. I want to say Nissan Maxima or something like that. Yota and Honda use the smaller ones. If your local parts store will let you dig around that would be your best bet if it concerns you.
