Are you driving up to Washington or is there a location in Oregon? I live in Portland BTW.

Nice, I literally just did the same today. Drove 14 hours from norcal straight to JT diffs. If all goes well I should be breaking it in on my drive back home in 2 days.

Meee, so much nicer on rockclimbs and hils, very little effort is needed to bump up onto boulders, when before even in low it took some throttle. And 4hi can actually be used again. Before 4hi on any decent hill just wouldnt happen, the truck would bog so bad.

Thanks for the response! Definitely 4hi is not useable for any incline as it is lol

I might make the switch and add a front locker while I'm at it

Looked into having ECGS provide and install Nitro 5.29's, but was advised both Nitro and ECGS are out of the 5.29 kits...and no real definitive ETA for them being restocked. The pricing seems reasonable, not to mention I'm located between Richmond and Virginia Beach, so ECGS in Raleigh, NC isn't that far of a trip, coupled with their reputation and warranty, it almost is a no-brainer to use them both for purchasing and installing the 5.29 package.

I guess I'm kind of like @inksin as I am not built up entirely for 5.29's (but running stock 3.90 on my '17 TRD OR DCSB automatic), but between currently running 33's, @Mobtown Offroad bolt-on sliders (future full skids in the works) and hauling a 6'4"x10' trailer typically with loaded with wood (for our woodstove, as well as trash/recycle runs to the local dump), the 5.29 seemed like the better option compared to 4.88s...granted most of my trailer hauling involves interstate driving with speed limits ranging from 65-70mph and typical round trip is about 70 miles (depending on where the tree guy's jobs are located).

Any insight, input, etc. is always welcomed!

5.29 will pull better then anything else cause they're lower gears, making our RPMs higher where the power is. OVtune also mentioned that we should be using ECT when we pull as well to avoid constant downshifting which makes sense. I need to stop buying other stuff so I can get my 4.30s swapped out for the 5.29s in my garage. :annoyed:

If it don't happen soon I'll probably just sell them to fund my crawler project. :anonymous:

@JoeCOVA sorry if this seems lazy, but you seem to have a really good grip on the math/statistics, but I noticed a lot of it is for ATs going with 5.29s, is there any comparisons/ other posts that focus on the MTs? Since they have slightly different trans gearing? In other words would an MT with 4.88 be comparable to an AT with 5.29s?

17 DCLB AT w/ 5.29's and 295/70r17's. Just came home from Texas Toyota Jamboree at Barnwell Mt.. The lower gears were a godsend when decending steep loose terrain. Just shift to S and 1st. then let the gears and motor walk you down, no brakes needed. Also much easier to traverse steep inclines and ledges without a ton of throttle input. Slow and controlled is far better than fast and on the edge of control.

Texas Auto Gear in Magnolia TX did mine. They are just a bit north of Houston. Great job and a decent price.
