I'm on Louisiana for work, got in late last night and stopped into the hotel bar for a drink. It's usually a good opportunity to try something I've never had, but sad to say the Marriott hotel bar sucks. They had all standard ho-hum stuff; Bulleit, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden, etc. but nothing unusual or unique. Except they did have a Booker's Kathleen's batch but the bottle only had about 3/4 of an inch left in it and it had one of those metal spout things in it, uncovered. I couldn't imagine how old it was but I'd bet a new bottle it had turned.

So I decided a Macallan 12 Sherry Cask single would do. Then I found out a stingy pour was $15. Yikes. So today I stopped by a local store to see if I could remedy the situation. Since I'm only in town for 3 more nights I didn't want to buy a full bottle and figured a few airline bottles would work. I was pleasantly surprised to find this 200ml bottle. I still can't believe the Macallan was $15. Crazy.

That's awesome. I just gifted that exact bottle and size to a coworker.

That a helluva remedy. Rest of the stay ought to go by just fine. Enjoy!

Wife drove up into Virginia Monday to see her son. I asked her to stop at the local ABC store while in town and check if they had any BT products sitting around.
As usual no BT, Blanton's or the Colonel Taylor. But she did clean the shelves of the 3 last bottles of the Scarce Eagle. Said she bought the 375 ml bottle because it was cute.

Enjoying a generous pour of Jefferson's very small batch on the porch with my dog. Just sitting here looking at the woods waiting for the sun to set or the mrs to get home. Peaceful as there's not soul for a good half a mile. I can smell the raining coming but the wind hasn't picked up. Perfect.

Feels good to relax a good drink after 2 1/2 hours on the tractor mowing the lawn and a quart of gatoraide.

Finished another college class. Time to celebrate with a dram of Elijah Craig barrel proof. I don't need those brain cells tonight.

Also just saw the avengers. Most satisfying ending to a series I think I've seen in a long time.

Waiting for all the episodes of GOT to come out so I can binge them properly :D

Eagle Rare is quickly becoming one of, if not my favorite daily drinker. Due to the strong Oak flavor. Oak now, not smoky like a Peated Scotch. I get this same flavor in the IW Harper 15 year old after the bottle has aired for a couple of weeks. Eagle Rare does have a 10 year statement on the bottle so I'm guessing the Oak is coming from time in the barrel. But I have other Bourbons such as Mckenna and EH Taylor both bib that are 10yr old and I do not get this Oak. IWH 15 is $75 a bottle way too expensive for a daily drinker and Eagle Rare is becoming at times just that "rare". So I ask does anyone have any suggestions on a readily available and fairly inexpensive (<$40) daily drinker that carries a good amount of Oak flavor?

Jim Beam Double Oak is quite good for the $$. Usually in the mid-$20's around here.

    Probably.
The flavor isn't the same as Eagle Rare, since JB actually rebarrels the DO, and ER just ages theirs in the same barrels for longer. But definitely lots of oak in the nose and the flavor.

@TRD-ED i just had the IW Harper 15 last night at a local spot. Man was I impressed. I may have been feeling it a little already so who knows where my palate was at. Low heat, sweet, and smooth finish. Different profile than I normally go for.
