I have a 2018 Tacoma and I had what seemed like a fairly light rock hit. I ended up with a pretty big crack on my windshield the next day. I went to a Safelight and they quoted me around $885 plus tax. The reason being that the 2018 has the lane alert camera.

Anyone know of a chain windshield place that might do cheaper? Has anyone here had their 2018 or above windshield replaced? How much did it cost? Anyone know what the dealerships charge? Is there a less breakage prone brand of glass out there? Does the lane alert camera get replaced along with the windshield?

Thats pretty steep for a windshield. Should be about half that price or less. I don't know about that camera, but unless its integrated into the glass, I think those guys are full of shit

Yeah I walked in there dreading that I was going to have to pay around $400 something to replace the windshield.

Yeah 400 still seems like a lot of money, but thats usually what a windshield costs. There are some places that take good windshields off of wrecked vehicals and will replace yours for around 250. You just have to look around your area for a place that does that.

Why doesn’t your insurance cover it?

Was 1100$ over here to replace. Luckily, my insurance covered it with my 200$ deductable...

On my second windshield, which is already cracked btw, and im only at 6k miles. In my experience these windshields are brittle for some reason. Never had issues on my other car/trucks and i drove a lot on highways with no problems. If im not mistaken most windshields are made on same factory, yet a lot of 3rd gen tacoma owners complain about this windshield. Strange.

    Good luck OP ! :canada:

Thanks for the link. I filled out their form. They don't have anything in the Kansas City area. But they did have some other outfits that they quoted some prices for.

Wow. In mass glass replacement is I think mandatory and without deductions.

You have a $1,000 deductible for comprehensive coverage? I think mine is only $100 deductible. Saved me a ton of $$ over the years between windshields and hitting a big horn sheep outside Yellowstone NP.

I’d walk away from safelight. Their techs are not ones I’d trust with a new windscreen.

Are you going OEM? What’s the difference in cost to add full glass in your policy and bring that deductible down?

I’d find a local shop that is reputable and has OEM like glass replacement

Personally if it was my 2018 I’d go with factory Toyota glass. Your truck is quite young still. And yes....the difference between factory and OEM like is discernible. The difference of either from safelight garbage is shocking.

I had just under 100 miles on my 19 and a rock came up and hit my windshield. Put a small chip in it. Didn’t crack. Went to the glass place to see if they could seal it so it would crack. They said it was fine. Don’t worry about it.

If I’m not mistaken, you can add glass coverage to your insurance and then I believe the deductible for having the glass replaced is different than the accident deductible. Obviously too late now but something to add after getting it replaced.

you sure you are looking at comprehensive and not your collision. comprehensive is fire, theft and glass breakage.
