Buzzy Vibration at certain RPM's..read before buying!

Some guys have noticed improvements with those weights. They used those on the 4th gen 4runner for a similar vibe.

 

There is another thread on this topic where the OP installed one of those dampers so some effect and I think at least one other person tried it but, I am not sure a consensus was reached on where the best location was to mount it.

 

I purchased two of them, while it’s probably good with just one I’m going to try placing one of each on both front pipes before the catalytic converter and go back from there as needed if there is no improvement.

 

If anyone is interested in trying this out also the part number is 17581-31010, the clamp will have to be bought separately, I think a 2.5” clamp is needed but I haven’t had a chance to measure it

 

I wonder if anyone has used a go pro to try and find vibrations....

 

I’ve seen people do that to capture driveline related vibrations.

Just took my new '19 TRD Sport 4WD DCLB on its first lengthy journey and this vibration almost entirely ruined any driving enjoyment I could have hoped to experience. Drove from Huntington Beach, up the Cajon Pass, to Apple Valley. About 100 miles each way with a long grade approaching the Pass. Buzzzzzzzzz! Like others, my hands and feet felt like they were going numb.

The trouble is that the truck just lives in the 2000rpm zone. Under moderate throttle, it shifts at about 2800 and puts you right back at 2000 where you really don't want to be. This horrible vibration becomes a relentless passenger. I'll be following up on this with the dealer and TMS very soon. I've already had one dealer tell me its "normal" because they drove others that did it as well. But that is just silly. Something mechanical is causing this buzzing and if I measured it electronically I bet it's triple or quadruple what it should be or what industry standard is.

Bummer, too, because I like the truck so much that even the lack of grunt didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I just powered up the hill in 4th gear at 3200rpm and it was tolerable. Engine wasn't whining too much. But this buzzzzz. GD it! Drove me insane. I was in diagnosis mode the entire time.

 

I’ve isolated the rumble strip vibration to when my truck downshifts from 2nd to 1st gear as I’m coming to a gradual and complete stop at a red light or stop sign doesn’t seem to happen every time though and it’s slight most of the time, have to go above a certain speed and come to a stop for it to happen too. It goes away when I put the truck in neutral so it’s not the brakes.

Edit: vibration is felt through the floor and seat, almost a shuddering feeling.

Does this correlate with what y’all are experiencing?

I opened a case with Toyota corporate last week, now I’m supposed to meet with a factory representive at the dealership later this month, not sure if it’ll change anything or result in resolution but I figured it’s worth a shot.

 

That's pretty identical to what I've got on my '19 Sport 4WD DCLB. It bugs me. But not nearly as bad as that buzzing vibration under load between 1800-2200rpm. That drives me out of my mind. Especially because it's probably fixable or improvable if anyone gave a shit.

 

Torque converter issues maybe? I can’t stand the pedal buzzing when under load, it’s really gotten worse over time, still going to try an exhaust dampener to see if it changes anything

 

I don't think it is torque converter but I could be wrong. It's annoying as all hell, that's all I really know. I find it mind blowing that Toyota hasn't figured it out and cured it in over 4 years of production. It can't be that difficult.

 

How is it that after all this time, this is still an issue?

I have vibrations in my steering wheel, and slight vibrations in my gas pedal.

The gas pedal I can live with since it's not always there, but my steering wheel is there at highway speeds or certain RPMs. I put the truck in N and its gone.

Has anyone had any luck getting this fixed?

I called Toyota Corporate but dont have much faith since this problem had been around for years and still no fix.

 

This is so pathetic. Toyota can't keep them on the lot so they keep selling the vibrating Tacos, but they definitely lost one customer here: me. I went for an used 2nd generation instead and couldn't be happier.

 

This 2200 RPM numbing vibration under slight load has been present since day 1 of the Gen 3 Tacoma. My '12 TRD Offroad Double Cab 4x4 has 75k miles on it and I'm itchy to upgrade but I refuse to pay $40k+ for a truck that puts my hands and gas pedal foot to sleep on a long trip. They don't seem to all do it but having read all 127 pages of this thread it is not clear what factors make it more likely. Has anyone conclusively found a solution? I've seen the exhaust pipe vibration dampers some have used. Does anyone have the vibration on a Pro? I ask about the Pro model because I believe it uses a cat-back exhaust system. None of the competing trucks appeal to me either. The Ridgeline is a car, the Ranger is untested and I don't trust turbo 4 banger durability, the high bed on the GM twins is annoying and the Frontier design seems to date from the early 19th Century. Any suggestion is welcome.

 

I want to love my Taco but I've had it a month and it's already been at the dealership twice already and still no fix.

I may probably get a full size next, maybe a Ram.

If I did go midsize again, I'd have to go for the Frontier PRO4X. I had a 2016 Frontier and that thing was freaking solid.

 

Same experience here. Really starting to believe it’s just a symptom of these trucks with any tire or suspension that isn’t stock

Also wondering if it is the torque converter kicking on

 

My TRD Off-Road is totally stock at the moment, with 600 miles, and I can feel the vibration accelerating and decelerating.

 

FWIW, my brother has a 2015 GMC Canyon: that thing has been absolutely trouble-free, drives like a car and the interior comfort would make any Tacoma owner jealous.

The 2018+ with the 8-speed automatic have a shudder some people complain about, but to my knowledge is no worse than that on Tacomas.

 

anyone find anything remotely promising to cure this?

for me it's much worse in the left side of the floor board, I've even tried cork
as well as foam under the front half of the floor mat and still nothing.
