It's literally like $30 a year for the coverage. Totally worth it.

Glass claims often does not have deductible and does not affect your ratesZ.

I am paying $303 every 6 months for 500 500 100 insurance with a 1000 deductible for both comp and collision. I have had two claims between 1984 to now. If I go to a $200 deductible I go from $303 to $410 for a $107 increase every 6 months. If I start making claims for little stuff I figure I will get rate increases that are hard to predict.

To break even with the lower deductible I will need to make a claim of $800+ on average every 3 years 9 months. I had a wreck that was my fault in 1985 and in 2013 I hit a deer doing $8000 damage to my 2010 Tacoma.

After reading this I pulled up my Geico coverage online. I do not see a separate option for glass. They will cover less than a dollar bill size crack repair but not replacement without a deductible.

I wonder if it is taking the lane assist camera into consideration? Safelight said with the camera it is now a lot more.

Where is that camera and why are they charging you double because of it? You need to ask them that or take it somewhere else and see what they say. 800 is ridiculous for a windshield.

You should look into it before spouting off about things you don't know. If you have adaptive cruise/lane assist/emergency braking in a 3rd gen tacoma there is a sensor in the grille and one in the windshield above the rear view mirror. If you have to replace the windshield, those sensors need to be recalibrated to ensure they are working properly. Not only does this make the windshield more time consuming to replace, it's an additional step that a technician has to be trained on, which is specific to a single vehicle, there are computer programs that need to be learned to program the system which involves extra equipment. A lot is involved, its not the company charging more just because they want to.

Long story short, OP, call your insurance, add full glass coverage which is usually really cheap, wait out whatever time period it is you have to wait to file a claim after changing your policy, get new windshield for cheap/free.

The nanny features are pretty cool, my wife has them on her 2019 RAV4. But Im glad she has it and also glad I bought a 2017, the last model year before they started putting it in Tacomas.

Insurance question threads are like legal question threads. Lots of opinion little fact.

Not every state DOI mandates carriers offer a full glass coverage option. In these cases going with a lower comp deductible is your best bet. Also in states that do offer full glass in most cases it's full safety glass which includes headlights and taillights.

As always if you haven't talked to your agent and done a full policy review you could be missing out on critical coverage choices, coverage understanding and possibly discounts. Better to take the time to learn about your policies before something happens and you could have protected yourself better. This is equally if not more important for property policies.

You should look into adding some type of glass coverage to your insurance premium. I pay about $100 extra a year for this feature after having to pay a $500 deductible for a windshield crack 2 weeks into ownership.

Windshield installers, companies charge more for new vehicle Because they have to realign the sensors for lane control braking and stuff like that. Safelite takes cars to their store and they have a setup in the back I belive where they can recalibrate the sensors to factory specs.

I'm glad I have a 17 too. With all the new added tech replacement cost have gone up. insurance is more expensive because of the added cost liability to the insurance company to Repair/replace.

The windshield isn’t soft/brittle/weak it’s just automotive glass that will break when hit at interstate driving speed by a significant object. The only way around it is to replace it with bulletproof glass or armor plates. It’s just bad luck and it sucks but the new windshields with all the tech are very expensive. My wife’s highlander windshield is over a grand so I moved her comprehensive deductible to 0 so if it gets broken I don’t have to pay a cent. I had a corvette and the cost of a new windshield for that thing would make your eyes water and it was a ‘98 model.
