They obviously spent quite a bit building the new house. Why would they choose to build on such a small lot? Makes no sense.
I have the smallest lot on the street we live on. It's right at 3 acres. Everyone else has between 3.5 and 5 acres. We live about as close as I can stand. My neighbors annoy me at times even with the big lots, and I'm sure I annoy them at times too. I just don't understand why people choose to live mere feet from another house, and then complain about it.

Must be nice! New builds near me under $600k are typically track builders and you’re getting .2 acres. Houses almost touch each other. Sometimes .4 acres if you can secure the one awkward shaped lot in the plan, but that comes with a $30k-$50k premium.

We had bought our first house in a nice neighborhood. (Lake Charleston if anyone knows the area) Nice (or so we thought) young neighbor family next door, small children. Neighbor wife was crazy. she poached our mailbox and got a replacement credit card we were expecting. made up a story to use our home phone, and called it in and activated it right in front of my wife without my wife knowing. ran up like $8000 in stuff. Discussed this situation with my other side neighbor, former marine and county swat team member, great dude. we called it in and he assisted as much as he could. That bitch got locked up, was not her first time. She also had brought a pack of nice steaks over one evening, still in wrapper from store, as a gift. we promptly tossed them in the trash. likely poisoned or something. crazy bitch. We were not responsible for any of the charges she made.

Yeah, but you're getting .2-.4 acres by choice, which to me is crazy. I would never choose to buy and build where I have to accept 0.2 acres. Might as well live in an apartment.

I agree. It sucks. But there are a lot more factors than the land. Schools, kids, kids' friends, neighbors, neighborhoods, convenience, etc. Also, there aren't a lot of 4bd 3000sqft apartments in my area.

Try moving to my neighborhood. Biggest lot is 5,000 sq ft. Mine is about 4,000, and I bet it's worth more than many of your multi acre places. My neighbor can hear me fart in the morning .

Worth is relative. Expensive I'm sure. If I have to put up with neighbors on my doorstep, the worth is pretty low. We all have choices in where we live. The next place we buy/build will be big enough for my own landing strip.

Don't get me wrong, I grew up on a neighbor island and we had a nice sized house on an acre of land. Sadly no jobs so had to come to the city.

Yeah, but HI! What does a gallon of milk run you? Value is relative. I'm on two acres, closest neighbor is across the street. Don't think I could live on a average city lot. Don't care to watch my neighbors and I value my privacy.

That video annoyed me for more than one reason. a) The neighbor is doing that on purpose, even if its on a subconscious level, that neighbor hates him. Stop trying to play nice in return. Nice should have ended after the first conversation. b) what kind of cheap shoddy stucco job can't withstand a basketball strike? I'd be going after the builder next. c) Im old fashioned - I prefer to reading a page over watching an 8 minute video.

And for the other debate, I'm on a small lot myself, 0.23 acre. I tolerate it because I moved into an old neighborhood with old-ass neighbors. They don't make a lot of noise, and occasionally will bring by cookies for christmas and easter. My dream plot is a small cabin on 50 acres, but oh boy would I sacrifice my commute for it. I'm 15-25 minutes from work as it is. To get one acre, I'd have to be an hour away, minimum. 50 acres, 2 hours, maybe more. Its the curse of the city...

So, when we first bought our house, it was in a neighborhood that was being built up. We weren't first there, but mighty close. Anyway, one of the neighbors moves in, and my wife being the absolute sweetheart that she is, brings them a fresh made (pretty large IMO) bowl of homemade fried rice. The man invites us in, and he says he had to move to a rancher to accommodate his wife who had cancer. He goes and gets her out of the bedroom, and she is sadly in her last stages of life, on oxygen and in a wheelchair, due to cancer (YOU BITCH CANCER!!). She ended up dying about a month or two later.

After a year or so, he starts dating again. This woman did not seem nice at all...but whatever, not my problem. They had been dating for a while, but she still had her apartment, so they weren't living together. One day, I drive into the neighborhood, and there is a sheriff at the entry road, turn the corner to our street, there's another one in a not-so-conspicuous spot. Get up to my house, and there is the rest of the county's police force in front of his house. I live 2 doors down, so I am able to s-q-u-e-e-z-e between two cop cars and get in my driveway. Curious, but not to the point of going to ask a sheriff curious. Luckily for me, one of the local news trucks show up. I turn on the tv while watching them broadcast live in front of my house. Apparently that morning, he got up, turned on his little sprinkler in the front yard, had a not so pleasant talk with her on the phone...and then raced up in his van to where she worked so he could kill her in cold blood when she got out of her car. I think it was at this point he realized he fucked up, and got back in his van and hid...behind a dumpster at a local college (but the sheriff's dept. didn't know that at the time when all this was happening).

I was a "character" witness for him at his trial. Not much I could do or say other than the fact that I knew him and a bit of his story before he met that woman, and went off the deep edge...they say it's always the quiet ones.

When the next people bought the house, they had to replace the front door, as it was a piece of plywood from the police coming in on that fateful day...

My neighbor plays video games late into the night and is very vocal about his frustration. It's not uncommon to hear him screaming at Fortnite at 1 AM.

Been in NH for about 20 years now, but originally from Boston, where the parking sucks in good weather. Add snow, and it doesn't get any better. There (for years) has been an unwritten rule, that when it snows, and you shovel out your spot, and leave, you use a "space saver" (chair, cone, etc) to save your spot.

Most people respect this, some don't. They let someone else shovel out, and then take the spot when you leave. People literally have been killed for this. Anyways, not wanting to go to jail for this, people sometimes come up with creative ways to punish those who do this. My method was to smear fresh dog shit under the handle of the barrel that I used for my space saver.

Took some of the sting out of coming home to find my spot gone, knowing the douche bag got back into his car with dog shit on his hands.

Wait...so in this case you are the lunatic neighbor right?

I kid. Went through this when I was in school in Chicago. Fights in the streets over cleared parking spots was routine. Nothing to see here...

Wow sounds like some of you guys have lunatics living near you. My problems was simple.
A while back I had my next door neighbor (he’s a millionaire in suburbia) start crushing aluminum cans with a sledge hammer at 11:30pm. I went over to see what the problem was. He said, oh did I wake you? I told him no problem. I get up at 4am, I’ll make sure he is aware that I am leaving for work. The problem never happened again.

Just curious, how did you make him aware of your departure? Or was the threat enough.
