    @whatstcp so those aren’t 17” steelies? They’re Tacoma spares?

Just curious because I’m debating btwn 16 and 17 steels. Aesthetics and weight are both coming into play for me. I know the 17” FJ’s are about 30lbs, but thinking your 16’s look better and are most likely a bit lighter.

@whatstcp gotcha. Yeah they look great. Just starting to build my truck out. I live in LA and do have to have a truck that’s a decent daily driver, as well as reasonably capable on my weekend escapades. So 16’s and a sl, p, or c rated tite seem to be the best options. Last question- where did you buy your Tacoma spares from? And thanks for the info.

I do have a full set (4) of fj steelies with center caps that I think I’m gonna swap for some 16 tacoma spares.
@whatstcp no spacers on yours right?

    Ok, here is the 411,

All 1st Gen steelies (spare style and silver designed) either from a 1st Gen Tundra or Tacoma will NOT have an oval hole near the valve stem. They all should be 16x7 and have a tad more offset than a 2nd/3rd Gen steelie.

If you have a newer Taco the older Gen wheels will sit out about 3/4 of an inch more than your stuck wheels. Now many many folks have reported ZERO rubbing issues with 1st Gen wheels on 2nd Gen trucks. I have 265/75/R16s on 1st Gen Tundra wheels and have ZERO rubbing and like the slightly wider stance.

I am slowly gathering a set of steelies and have a few of each Generation, lol...

I am not sure the pictures will help but you might be able to tell the difference in stance.

First pic is a 1st Gen steelie, 16” also the FJ will not have an oval hole and is a 17x7.5” with the slightly wider offset, I believe they sit just a tad more out then my 1st Gen wheels do. It gets really interesting when you find out there are 5th Gen 4runner spares that are 17x7 but I can’t confirm the offset though. They don’t show up that much.

    1st Gen 16x7 steelie
2nd Gen 16x7 steelie, (Note oval hole near valve stem)
FJ steelie, 17x7.5 all round holes.

Absolutely. @Greenbean any pics of anything mounted by chance? Was looking at some 1st gen tundra steelies but wasn’t sure if they were TPMS compatible?

They work with the stock alloy wheel TPMS. I’ve run my 1st gen Tundra spare steelies for almost a year or so now and the shop swapped in the OEM TPMS from my TRD wheels no problem.

I have some with my old stock steelies and will take some tomorrow with the 1st Gen offset to show the difference. Same tires too so it’ll show you the difference.

As to the tire pressure sensors, I left my originals in my stock steel wheels because Discount Tire would not swap them to the aluminum wheels, so I have their generic sensors that can go in any wheel and are programmed to my truck now.

I apologize for the lighting conditions, I just cut the grass and have to leave for work.

But I did my best so you can see the difference. Tires are the same in each pic, Hankook DynaPro ATMs 265/75/R16s just one rim is the 2nd Gen factory steel, the other is the 1st Gen Tundra wheel.

Left is before and right side is now.

Each wheel even though not black represents the difference in offset. I might be wrong in the 3/4” as it may just be 1/2”. But you can see the slight bump outwards and it sits the tire edge just at the fender edge I think.

    Anyways, hope this helps.

I’m also including a pic I had when I put a set of 2nd Gen OR wheels that had 265/75/R16 KM2s on.

I believe you can also see see the offset difference when viewing the vehicle as a whole.

And yes I think the KM2s on the stock 2nd Gen rims look bad to the bone, they were a tad aggressive for me.

Which lug nuts are you running? spline lugs or the acorn/bulge kind? Thinking of swapping out my Ray-10s for steelies.

The only double oval wheels I have seen are some off of eBay that are made by a particular company.

However I believe it’s an OEM wheel but am unsure of the specs.

Post a pic or two of any detail or numbers stamped in the wheel.

Whose got a steel wheel recommendation (with the small holes like the steel spare) that has negative offset? I'd like to get rid of my wheel spacers.

Probably not happening. You can get a "Soft 8" style wheel in negative, but likely not OEM look.

cleaned 1 rim this mourn. i think (?) these are stock gen 1 tundra rims that came w/hubcaps... look at the rust pattern on the dirty rim. gotta be caused by hubcap clips. did find several manufactures stamps,

id letters and numbers stamped on inside of rim too.

rust left behind by hubcap clips?

ill post'em up after painted and mounted, take care!

Oh yeah it’s a Toyota wheel, I think your right as it’s a Gen1 Tundra wheel.

Please add the pics when your done. Steelies are Boss man!
