Maybe. I have a hard time believing after all this time of him not being able to finish the book that he won’t just borrow from the TV series.

I'll throw in on this argument. There could have been three quick "fixes" to the episode that wouldnt demand a total rewrite, and would at least partially address the let down feeling I got.

1: the strategy was shit because people panicked and abandoned the plan. Solution: this should have been portrayed better. Two lines of exchange between Jon and Dany would be all thats needed, when they were watching the dothraki get snuffed out.

2: The night king was promoted to be this omnipotent bulletproof super creature through the entire episode, and died in a 2-second combat scene. Solution: leave the fireproof scene on the cutting room floor. That shouldnt have been there, the night king needs to have the same weaknesses as his walkers, otherwise theres no satisfactory way to write his death. Rewrite the scene as Drogon not even able to reach the night king, because the white walkers were running a fantastic defense formation. That slight twist makes him able to die, but highly improbable because of his skills at running a crew. Not only would that be consistent with the entire rest of the series, but it would play well at setting up Arya's ninja skills in the later scene. Hopefully Bran backfills some of the story in next weeks episode, "everybody pitches in to clean up winterfell."

3: Somebody should have died. Somebody with significant emotional investment. Like at a minimum on the importance level of Brienne, Varys, grey Worm, or even somebody higher up than that. Jaime, possibly. The death would distract from the existing plot holes.

I didn't say you should. I certainly don't. I don't even know where you got that idea. If I was as dissatisfied with the show as some of you I just wouldn't watch. I watch it because I want to be entertained and it entertains me. That's just another way of saying what I already said. Hope that helps.

You can do whatever you like. I just don't recommend doing things you don't like. If you don't like the show then find one you do like.

Maybe some of you are just the type of people who need to have something to bitch about. If a TV show is all you've got to fill that space then you're doing pretty good.

I didn’t like an episode, and your attempt at trolling my opinion is worse than what the writers gave us. Give it a rest.

I'm not sure I agree with all the criticism about how the Battle of Winterfell and Night King's death was a let down or anti-climactic.

The White Walkers plot line was never the central plot line in the show. It was always something that was just off to the side, in the back of everyone's minds, only Jon took it seriously. The show is mostly about who is getting on the throne. Granted this is different than the books, from what I understand (i haven't read the books). The books seem to be about the humans petty squabbles in the shadow of a world-ending evil that is the Night King, but the show is about the "game of thrones" with the white walkers and the night king being a distraction.

They didn't even really get into the white walker plot line until like season 5 or so, and even then it was never the focus of the season's plot. Yea they were building it up in the last couple seasons, and I feel like it got the ending and treatment that it warranted. An hour and half long episode, the most epic battle in the show.

The Night King's army was never going to be defeated, and he was never going to retreat. They had to kill the night king to survive, and that was their plan. All the tactics in the world don't change that. They're not trying to defeat an army or hold them back or anything, they're just trying to survive long enough to lure the night king out and kill him. It almost didn't work, until Arya's skills came through at the last second, something the Night King never anticipated. He was prepared for and shut down all resistance, and all forces in his way, and the only thing he didn't account or plan for was a sneaky little ninja getting passed all of his wights and generals in the courtyard.

I will say for sure that their tactics left a lot to be desired, but in all honesty none of the people in that war room are master tacticians, and even when their mediocre tactics didn't work, they don't react as well as they should have. So a lot could have been better there, though the dramatic effect (which is what they were going for, over master battle tactics) was fantastic. Seems like everyone is a military strategist and a screenwriter this week...

Also I don't really understand why so many people are upset that their favorite characters didn't die. I'm not really mad about the major characters surviving. (plus Jorah is totally a major character, and I'm really sad that he died, and thought his death was very appropriate and fitting for him). There's still time for that if that's what you're really hoping for, maybe don't get your panties in a bunch about that just yet.

I agree there's a lot of other options for how they could have played it all out, but I am not really disappointed in the way they did it.

I'll also add that it seems the Night King won't really fight one on one. At no point in any episode has he done that. Fighting seems to be below him, he doesn't really bother with it. After all, why would he? It's too much risk. His mission is too "grand" for him to risk injury or death in a fight.

I’m good with that. The others can, and have, though.

Maybe Bran will have more than a few lines this Sunday and fill us in.

Yea, would definitely have been cool to see the generals fight some of the major characters.

Yea I would definitely love to see and hear more lore/background from Bran and/or Tyrion (they did have a one-on-one in front of the fireplace in one of the first two episodes, who knows what they discussed and how much bran told him), but I'm willing to bet they're saving that information for the pre-quel/spin-off shows.

All this bickering would be moot if GRRM would simply PUBLISH THE LAST TWO BOOKS GODDAMNIT IT!!!

Then we could all be PROPERLY pissed off and Benioff and Weiss, instead of partially.

I agree that someone should’ve died. Theon and Jorah were ‘A’ characters. They were B and B- at best. They spent a lot of time building up emotional send offs in the episode prior around the fire. My money was on Brienne and grey worm...

To your point about the night king. I don’t have a problem with how it went down. If you watched the ‘The Game Revealed’ episode behind the scenes for this episode the writers/producers (or whatever they are) said the only way the night king could die was the same way he was created and it had to be Valyrian steel to the heart. The same place the COF stabbed the dragon glass. Since he was created with dragon glass he was likely immune to dragon glass and dragon fire. The only thing I did not like about that scene was the way it was shot and how it was in slow motion. It was too dramatic and too ‘not’ game of thrones. It could’ve happened in real speed and been just as effective.

According to Emilia Clarke on Jimmy Kimmel the other night, episode 5's battle will be even bigger than the Battle of Winterfell. Well...she didn't specifically "say" that but you know...

Hopefully this one will be during the daytime at least

I remember seeing that Ep 3 and 5 are directed or produced or whatever by the same person.
