how can i go about getting a spare valet key? I have the 2 flimsy glovebox/door lock keys that come in the fobs and a solid valet key. is the dealer the only option for the valet key?

called dealer. 10$. now the next question is, can anyone make a spare key? like home depot/walmart? the key shank is smooth and the teeth are inside the shank. Not like a normal key. if not, 10$ isn't bad at tall. (andy griffith voice) at talllll.

Your truck should have came with 3 keys, 2 in the fobs and one ACTUAL key. Did you not receive yours?

My local locksmith has the ability to make laser cut keys... try a real locksmith shop, they should carry blanks as well.

perhaps it's a new math thing?

to me this makes perfect sense in terms of what i already have?

"I have the 2 flimsy glovebox/door lock keys that come in the fobs and a solid valet key."

i included the ;-) previously as a raz.... lighten up Frances. ;-) (that's from stripes in case you were not aware of the reference)

If it’s $10 through Toyota just go that route. You’ll probably spend that much anyways if you go to a Walmart or whatever. My only question though, why? Do the 2019 automatics have an actual key ignition switch now? No more push start? The only use the key has is to open the tailgate, driver door, and glovebox. Are you wanting a spare for the sake of opening the door/tailgate?

want a backup so that i can hide on the truck like if i go to the beach and walk 2 miles away. i don't want to have tocarry a fob that can be ruined in salt water or even the key for that matter. Though carrying a metal key in swimming trunks is preferable to the fob.

Can’t you unlock the truck from the outside if the fob is inside the truck? Or can you even lock it? Not trying to pick your brain I’m just confused lol. Key to unlock the truck, got that. But don’t you have to have the fob on you so start the truck?

yes, i can open the truck up with either the fob's key or the valet key if the fob is in the truck or outside the truck. the plan is to leave the fob in the truck out of sight and lock with the valet key and either bring it with me when i do my beach walk or hide under the truck someplace. i don't want to take my only valet key to the beach where it may fall off if i put under the truck, driving out there or where i may lose it in the surf. if i am going swimming or in the water, i would prolly leave the key under the truck. make sense?

What is this "valet key" everyone is talking about? I have a '16 OR and it's got two key fobs (with glovebox keys) and a physical tailgate key (which I think doesn't exist on the newer third gens).

What model/trim of truck? SR? I thought that none of the Sports or ORs even had a turnkey ignition. My "valet key" is when I give the valet my fob and keep the glovebox key.

Am I confused? What am I missing here?

Oh, ok. Sorry. I'm used to thinking of the valet key as an ignition key that doesn't open the glovebox or trunk.

Yeah, I think any locksmith can hook you up with a copy.

Well, that valet key is not really a valet key. Ex: If you left that key with a valet, he would not be able to start and drive your truck. He's got to have the FOB. But there are other good reasons to have a physical key. I think the dealer is your best option.

My SR5 doesn't have push-button start. The key IS the FOB, for door locks, etc. Really this old guy likes it that way.

sorry! the real key thing is used to access the door, tailgate, glove box. it cannot start the truck. sorry i was not clear.

i want a spare of that real key in order to get back into the truck while at beach for example- key fobs don't like salt water.
