What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Nope, still on original plugs. They must be OK because I'm sure the dealer can't wait to charge for that service.

 

Dont forget about everything else I listed. Alot of it is every 30k (so at 60k again) and then some additional stuff at 60k. Did you get a major maintenance at 60k?

 

Nothing out of the ordinary. Fluid checks, tire rotation, a couple filters replaced...

 

Well per Toyota service schedule and the Hayes manual for our truck (I got a 2015 too) you got a shitload of maintenance to do.

Fluid changes
-front diff
- transfer case
-rear diff
-transmission
-oil (done)
-coolant
-brake fluid (forgot that in my original post)

Other
Air filter (done)
In cab filter (done?)
Spark plugs
Throttle body/MAF cleaning (hopefully they did this when changing your air filter)
-grease driveline zerks
-retorque driveline bolts
-check alot of various things

Sounds like a 5k maintenance, not 60k.

 

This is $110 in my neck of the woods. Guess it's 60k not 65k.

 

Seems like a full "inspection" but a 5k maintenance (what was actually serviced). I'm no expert, just pointing out what the manual says and commented because I'm currently do my 60k. I called my Toyota dealer and asked how much a 60k maintenance was. They quoted me 1700 bucks. I asked them to list what that included and they listed everything I listed above (matched what the Hayes manual had). I then thanked them and declined (not paying them that for 300-400 in parts/fluids, best excuse for my wife to work on my truck and learn .... saving 1400 bucks honey).

Maybe your mechanic didn't think you NEEDED to change all the fluids but per Toyota that is the recommended service schedule. My truck is going to last and is my baby so it's getting the full recommended service at the recommended milage/service interval. I also just love working on it and the experience gained. Maybe couple hundred hours in to that 10,000 hours bench mark.

Not sure how you will determine when what I listed will be needed other than paying others to do a full inspection every 5k and then relying on them to tell you when to do what.

What's your manual say to do for 60k?

 

This is higher than usual so I don't know what they did different. I don't mind doing the recommended service so I just do it and write the check. Their favorite kind of customer I'm sure. My days of doing my own oil changes ended with my '85 Escort Wagon.

Manual is out in the truck and my butt is in the chair so I don't know what it says.

 

Right on man. I was just trying to point out that from my understanding you perhaps missed some major maintenance on your bad ass truck, regardless if done at home or by a shop. That said it's your rig and not mine. I'm just consumed with my 60k maintenance at the moment so your post caught my attention. Lots of TW threads, YouTube videos, and Hayes manual review on my end. All which say it should be done at 60k (okay that was my last poke, I promise) .

De-badged the TRD stickers on the sides of the truck. Love the cleaner, blacker look.

Didn't take as long as I thought it would. About an hour total. Now, time to clean the truck, she dirty.

Took the day off today and with the help.of Monster energy and XM Turbo I finished installing my lift kit! A Fox Level 2 from @HeadStrong Off-Road.

Netted right at two inches all around fresh off the jack stands. Will get some official measurements. I'm sure it'll settle a smidge but digging it so far on the test drive.

 

....and today I removed the bull bar and side rails. Now I need a skid plate asap

 

Where are you? I have a skid plate I'd make you a helluva deal on

 

I did this little mod/fix today, and it worked!! I didn't think I'd have driveline vibration after a 2" lift, but it was definitely there, and now it's not.

 

Got the yoda sticker in today my daughter wanted me to put on my truck. Will be putting this on tomorrow.

 

Sounds like I need some of that beer
