    Question for you guys,

    Since I am having a lot of problems with my 19 Tacoma (vibrations, and rumble strip) I am thinking of trading in for a new 4runner.

    I apologize if this is technically in the wrong forum section, but was wondering if you guys know if the 4runners have the same driveline vibrations that plague the Tacomas?

    Any other typical problems associated with these?

    I appreciate the feedback.

    Totally different vehicle from a Tacoma, you could always test drive one.

    Sorry for my ignorance but I thought maybe they shared some characteristics, like same chassis?

    I test drove my Taco and felt great, it wasn't till after a few weeks later I started having the problems.

    If you visit a 4runner forum and you trade, then your new 4runner will have some of the same problems you see on that forum. If you stay off of the forums and go trade, then you will have a trouble free 4runner.

    Hit or miss. Best way is to do extended test drive. My 2017 Tacoma no vibrations. That’s why I. Hesitant to do lifts for now.

    I don't think they have anything in common, 4R is made in Japan.

    Nope, the 4R is based on the overseas Land Cruiser Prado 150. It’s a fully boxed ladder frame and a linked rear suspension instead of leaf springs. All 4R’s are built in Japan and shipped to the states

    I have had my 4runner since June of 2017. I have had zero issues with it. Most of the issues I have heard of were associated with the first couple years of the 5th gen or a few one offs here and there. As everyone else said, you are better off reading through the 4runner forum than asking on here.

    The 4runner does have some similarities with the 3g taco, but it shares the fj cruiser platform (frame, suspension, drivetrain) While there is no guarantee you get a problem free 4runner, they seem to be less prone to issues than the tacoma

    I absolutely agree! I just traded a 5th gen 4Runner for my Taco. I really enjoy having a bed, but I really miss the superior interior, and smooth ride of the 4Runner.

    The 4Runner isn’t without its issues. Been a diff recall and it does have a outdated gauge cluster and infotainment system. It’s roomy, pretty tough, low end torque, rear seats recline about 15*, and the standard 4Wd goodies the Tacoma has (Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select and KDSS were introduced to the 4Runner in 2010).

    There is that but, in reality, how many people actually get close to that in their Tacoma’s?
