Hey all, first post here. I found out about gfc last fall cause I was googling camper shells and roof top tents and this forum popped up in my feed. I had never heard of Tacoma world before coming here either. I found the GFC is exactly what I have been looking for in a camper. After going down the rabbit hole on this thread I did not realize how much people were into camping out of the back of their truck. I have always either slept on the ground or in the back of my truck but was never sold on putting a camper shell on. To tell the truth most of these roof top tents and other big camper tents just look ugly and dumb to me.
Anyway I pulled the trigger and put a deposit down last October and have been patiently waiting.
It's been interesting to see the progression of this product and how GFC has been changing the product to make it better. I recently noticed on Instagram that the color of the fabric of the tent changed. I emailed gfc about this and they stated the following.

"We are using the new fabric only--the tent is lighter and easier to close than with the older fabric."

The topic of closing the tent has come up on this forum a lot. Sounds like this new fabric hopefully eliminates some of those issues. See comparison picture I took off of a couple of tents on IG below.

I honestly don’t think it’s that hard to close and I have the side door. I’m also 6’3” and weigh 205 lbs so I have that going for me.

At 6'3'', how is the sleeping length for you? I am the same height so am curious if it gets tight. Thanks!

I am 6' exactly and I insist on sleeping with my head toward the hinge. Makes more sense to me because I get in from the back of the truck and this keeps my bedding a little cleaner. I find that I have to scoot all the way up to keep the fabric of the door from touching my feet when the wind blows. Sleeping in this orientation does feel a little claustrophobic but its not bad. Additionally, I am used to sitting up a little to change positions during the night so I definitely hit my head a few times the first night.

3E053BD6-A8B9-43AA-BE97-78B198249EE8.jpg Made the drive up this last weekend and got install done on Monday. Got to see the shop and meet some of the guys and gals at GFC. The family and I are super impressed with the quality. As others have said, they are using a new tent fabric and also a new 2” mattress. I have an XL and it closes no problem with all cushions in and the side windows open.
Not a Tacoma, just happy to have the GFC

    AWESOME! Congrats! Looks awesome!
I wasn’t aware they finally went to the 2” mattress. That doesn’t bother me. The easier to close the better IMO. Hoping to get mine in June. #234

To anyone who follows the GFC leaderboard I noticed something that seemed odd. There are many people that have been labeled " In production notified". As of today the highest number camper for this label is #298 then as you scroll down most are labeled "ready for production" but then all the way down at #384 and #385 these campers are labeled " In production notified". I know they said there is not a specific order but I have never seen this happen on the leaderboard. Perhaps they have some kind of priority or status over the rest of us that got them into production sooner.
Not that any of this matters. Just something I found odd.

Ya, I've been noticing that as well. I'm number 249 and have been in production notified for nearly a month (4-10). I'm hoping to see it change soon.

#234 went into Production on 3/7 and in “Components Produced” 3/15.
Hoping to go “In Assembly” this week or next.

Has any one seen and or laid on the 2 inch matress? This is the new standard used in all gfc campes right? I was wondering if it is as comfortable as the old 3 inch matress.

I got the wind skid and I think it keeps the front of the GFC looking clean and washes off a lot easier.

The hollow spaces on mine may be retaining water as I notice drips long after exposure... I havent had a chance to examine the issue in detail.

Overall totally dry on the inside.

I just sold mine, and I assure you it’s nothing to do with the 3” mattress lol... in fact the mattress GFC uses is incredible. Super comfy i hope the 2” is the same.

I only sold my GFC to move into a fully loaded Alu-Cab Khaya. I must be getting old (40 this year) but I’m looking for more creature comforts. The GFC performs 100% as designed and i think for a sub 300lb canopy and tent it’d be impossible to do better. That said my new Khaya weighs in at 1100 lbs so obviously there’s a few more features.

As always there’s a place for everyone and I really hope i don’t regret selling the GFC... I really had nothing but positive experiences with it and the GFC community in general.
